Meet the expert beer guide and the rest of the tour group at the Smithsonian's Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture. Learn from the guide about the beer-making process and what to expect during this inside look at four different DC- and Virginia-based breweries. On the daytime tour, enjoy tastings of at least 15 beers at four different breweries, with lunchtime food pairings at one of two local eateries. While the evening tour, showcases DC's bustling nightlife and brewpub scene, combining old-school brewhouses with some of the most popular microbreweries in the area. Enjoy tastings of 18 to 20 beers and a dinner food-pairing at a local brewery.

Some of the breweries featured on either the daytime or evening tour could include any four of the following: DC Brau Brewing, Hellbender Brewing, Right Proper Brewing, 3 Stars Brewing, The Public Option, District Chophouse and Brewery, and Supreme Core Cider

Hellbender Brewing Company
This handsomely-helmed DC brewery got its name from the Eastern Hellbender Salamander, which is the largest salamander in North America, and the third largest in the world! So, it’s safe to say that their beers boast BIG flavors. But they don’t just brew killer ales, they do it in an environmentally sound, super-efficient way using their hammer mill and mash filter to protect the earth from harsh effects and you from bad beer. Unlike any brewery on the east coast, Hellbender Brewing is able to use less grain and less water for all of its brews but brings you more flavor than you can even imagine. Let us take you on a behind the scenes tour of this brewery’s unique process and walk you through the science of why less really is more, and what makes Hellbender a must visit on any Washington, DC trip. Bonus: You’ll be able to tell everyone you’re a sustainable beer drinker, which basically means you’re imbibing for the greater good. So go on and feel awesome about yourself, you environmentally-conscious inhabitant of earth you.

DC Brau Brewing
Ranked one of the top breweries in our nation’s capital, DC Brau is the OG of local DC beer. Now, DC Brau has been designated one of the fastest growing breweries in the USA, and their commitment to excellence has been going strong for over fifty years. You’ll taste the dedication as our expert guides walk you through DC Brau’s canning process and how they churn out their award-winning brews year and after. Port City Brewing Company
Tucked at the western most tip of Washington, DC, Port City Brewing Company is Northern Virginia’s most notable brewery. We know what you’re thinking… Virginia?! I thought this was a DC Brew Tour. And you’re right, but you may not know that Alexandria, VA is only a stone’s (bottlecap’s?) throw away from DC, and they’re churning out some of the most incredible craft brews that we just had to feature them on the tour. And to show us some love for including them, they’ve generously offered our tour-goers special samples and beers that are exclusive to the brewery and pack such a malty pinch, you may even forget you’re on planet earth. In fact, their beer is so good it earned them Best Small Brewery in America in 2016.

Right Proper Brewing Company
Right Proper Brewing Company started as a vision that centered around DC as a hometown, with each neighborhood defined by a different culture. A vision of heading to your local pub to grab a fresh glass of beer that was brewed on premise. A vision that would be defined by the yeasts used to ferment the beer, as opposed to the hops used to bitter it. This vision belonged to Thor Cheston, a DC Native who ditched medical school at Georgetown University to follow a passion for beer. After meeting John Snedden, owner of Rocklands BBQ, the two of them realized they had aligned visions, and opened their Brewpub: Right Proper. Right Proper Production Brewery followed, and allowed them to share their beers with DC restaurants, and still be a part of the community!

Thank you for the great tour!

Our 7 person group had a variety of beer enthusiasts from no experience to experts. Even so, Steve did a great job of keeping us all entertained as well as informed. Steve picked out all our beers, we got a behind the scenes look at the breweries, and the driving was filled with beer history. It was a lot of fun and I recommend this tour to anyone who has even the slightest interest in beers (of any kind!)

On the surface, this seems to be the best beer tour everbut what a disappointment, especially for the . The guide was very knowledgeable about the beer-making process, but not very engaging. The first brewery was great! Fantastic beers, fun atmosphere, but it went downhill form there. Too much time spent in the van driving between breweries, and the last place was just kinda creepy. Dinner was advertised as not appetizers, but that's exactly what we gota plate full of apps. Recommend this tour only for the very adventurous.
