    Venture through the rugged heart of Australia to the spectacular scenery of Kings Canyon. Get an early start to the day with morning pickup at Ayers Rock Resort, and travel in a comfortable coach through the rocky desert landscape. Start with breakfast at Kings Creek cattle and camel station — an expansive family-run estate that’s been operating since 1981. Get a sense of Outback station life with an optional camel ride (own expense) if you like.

    Continue on to Watarrka National Park, home to Kings Canyon. Learn about the history of the massive red sandstone gorge from your guide, including its sacred meaning to the indigenous Ulpinyali and Lilla people. 

    Immerse yourself in the natural wonder with the choice of two walks. On the 3.5-mile (6-km) Rim Walk, make a strenuous elevation gain of 330 feet (100 meters) up a cliff to the canyon’s edge for thrilling views to the valley floor below. You’ll also follow a steep trail down into the canyon to a leafy, spring-fed oasis nicknamed the Garden of Eden. Or, opt for the more leisurely Creek Bed Walk that runs 1 mile (2 km) along the valley floor and offers a ground-level perspective of the towering canyon walls.

    After your walk, recharge with lunch (own expense) and a swim at the nearby Kings Canyon Resort, and then relax and rest your muscles on the scenic return drive to Ayers Rock Resort.

    Kings Canyon was a wonderful sight to see but I feel the day was made perfect due to our guide (Pauline) and driver (Colin). Pauline's talks were informative and her knowledge of plants, geology and history was amazing, keeping all in the bus entertained.     I wasn't prepared for the hard slog up and down Kings Canyon, but I made it with lots of help from the lovely Michelle and Jess our tour guides. It was great to visit Kings Creek Station, would have liked more time there, but understand the time constraints as the walk at Kings Canyon takes up so much of the day, as well as the travel time to get there from Yalara. Beautiful outback country to see and I am so thankful we had such an experienced driver on board with Jenny, who avoided skillfully a big red who was crossing our path, just before sunrise. Could not fault the AAT Kings team on the day. We travelled on 11 May 2022.

    This is a tour for only fit people who can do the rim walk cause otherwise you are just traveling for 6 hrs travelling thier and back 1 small creekbed walk the duped at a pub for 2 half hrs while wating for people to come bsck so unlees you do rim walk dont bothrr to much money for a walk

    This is a awesome experience, it’s a steep climb up to the rim but well worth it if you are fit and able. Our tour guides and bus driver were fabulous so knowledgeable and professional. Thank you Jacob, Grace and Vinny. Unfortunately even with all the information provided regarding the climb and fitness ability required some still did the walk, held up the group considerably and put a damper on the day as someone got injured who was clearly not fit enough to do walk.

    The walk around the rim of Kings Canyon was strenuous but well worth doing for the scenery, especially to see the Garden of Eden which was at about the half way point. The breakfast at Kings Creek Station was delicious and you tell that the bacon was very fresh. Unfortunately, our AAT Kings bus was not being co-operative, especially when certain gears were needed to be used. The guides were knowledgeable and encouraged you to take the climb and walk at your own pace but I was slow and by the time that I reached the rest stops, most of the group started walking again so I did not get to rest for very long. My husband and I did this tour at the end of June when the weather was cool in Yulara but we wished that we had worn shorts/three quarter pants and a T-Shirt for the climb and walk around the rim of Kings Canyon as we got very warm and sweaty.

    The canyon walk was the best. Staff and breakfast was amazing. The only criticism is that I feel that more emphasis should be made on the level of fitness required for the rim walk. Some people required help and held the group up significantly, on a hotter day this could have been hazardous for everyone else.

When we are travelling to Kings Canyon we explain to our guests that the circuit walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts, and we recommend for those with a good level of fitness. The choice is left to our guests to make that decision, and we offer a shorter walk if they decide not to walk around the circuit on the day.     Easy to organise on line. Friendly efficient, helpful staff at office in Ayers Rock. Driver and guides professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Coach very comfortable. 2 walks available, can choose on the day and are given opportunity to change from the harder walk after a short trial.
