Overview

Pretend you’re a Japanese ‘salaryman’ for the evening on this visit to the hidden drinking dens and casual ‘izakayas’ (food pubs) of Tokyo’s Shimbashi area. Loosen your tie and pour yourself a drink, because it’s quitting time in Tokyo—also known as the hour for eating, drinking, and socializing. Snack on local favorites like "okonomiyaki" (Japanese-style savory pancake), "gyoza nabe" (dumpling hot pot), sashimi, and "taiyaki" ( fish-shaped dessert) as you grab a quick bite and beer with thousands of Tokyo’s famous office workers. A local guide, plus food and drink tastings as specified, are included.
  • Eat like a local on a walking food tour of Tokyo's Shimbashi district
  • Join thousands of 'salarymen' (Japanese office workers) as they unwind after work
  • Sample Japanese drinking food like ‘yakitori’ (grilled skewers), ‘gyoza’ (dumplings), and sashimi
  • Feel like a local as you socialize and 'blow off some steam' with Japanese office workers
  • Visit lesser-known drinking dens and Japanese-style casual eateries (izakayas)
  • Get off the beaten path and explore the Shimbashi district, an area still popular with locals

My wife and I were the only guests on this tour in early September, 2018.. Our guide was Asami and she had an assistant, Lora. Both were very lively and talkative. Tolds us about customs and manners of Japanese eatingvery interesting and took us to several restaurants. The first was a grilling place. Grilled fish and veggies--very good. The second was a place where vegetables were cooked by boiling., interesting. A third place for layered omelet , and saki tasting. In-between walking a viewing vending machines and more. Very enjoyable.

A very pleasant evening with Anne walking around the Shimbashi salary man's neighbourhood. This was much more than just a food tour, Ann was delightful and happy to share her wealth of local knowledge on Japanese food and beyond. We tasted food that we would have never found ourselves and learnt much of the Japanese cuisine culture. We certainly weren't hungry at the end of the evening. This exploration of food gave us confidence to continue our tasting throughout our holiday. We would recommend without hesitation.
