Take a break from fast-paced Tokyo as you journey back in time to the serene temples, shrines and gardens of Kamakura on this day trip.

Begin your excursion with a pickup from a central meeting point. Then head out by coach for the ride south to the city Kamakura, situated on Japan’s Sagami Bay. Start your Kamakura visit at Jomyo-ji Temple, enjoy matcha—powdered green tea—amid the refined and tranquil ambiance of a 400-year-old tearoom that looks out over a Japanese rock garden.

Later visit Hokoku-ji Temple, a renowned temple whose highlight is its beautiful bamboo grove, and then the city’s famous Great Buddha, located at the complex of Kotoku-in Temple. This renowned bronze statue, dating to 1252, is considered a national icon. Peek inside the statue’s hollow interior, then gaze at the entirely of the figure, which towers over 43 feet (13 meters) high.

Enjoy a Japanese style lunch and then head to Enoshima. Enoshima is a small island featuring some of the closest sandy beaches to Tokyo and it's a popular destination for locals. The tour concludes in Tokyo.

Overall, the trip was great with timely departures and a great guide in Marie. Can provide for some additional time @ Enoshima as it may be tough to reach up to the Sea candle and then walk back down. Would definitely recommend this tour from Sunrise as an ideal day trip from Tokyo

Excellent Japanese cultural day tour to Kamakura!

Hiro was an excellent tour guide who kept us on track while showing us a Shinto shrine where we had a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and time to take pictures of the beautiful garden. The bamboo forest was spectacular as was the temple. The Great Buddha was amazing and the traditional Japanese dinner was tasty even for those new to Japanese dishes. The best part of the trip was exploring Enoshima Island and the spectacular views of the gardens, temples, shrines and market. A little time to shop for traditional Japanese gifts was a plus. A true Japanese cultural adventure.

Kamakura and Tokyo Bay Day trip
Elaine G

I loved this day tour - I love this history of the Shoguns and Kamakura was the political birth place of the shoguns and this tour covers some of the history. We experienced a tea ceremony at our first shrine and it was such a special experience watching the precision of the tea making process. Unfortunately due to a pre-existing leg injury I was unable to climb the stairs for the second shrine but I enjoyed my quiet time in the gardens whilst waiting for the rest of the tour to come back Our group then moved to Kamakura to see the giant buddha and it was amazing. I loved the tour in that we got some time to take in the sights in our own time. Our tour guide Hiro was fantastic - very knowledgeable and interesting - very gentile and respectful. She made sure that everyone on the tour was looked after and gave plenty of time for people to look around at their own pace. Our group then went for a traditional Japanese lunch and it was delicious. I think my own suggestion would be a little more information about what we were eating but this was a minor issue. We then took a drive to Enoshima Island - it was great weather and we were right on the Pacific Ocean. Again due to my leg I was unable to go up to the shrine but there was plenty to see and I had plenty of time to enjoy the great weather and I got some lovely gifts to take home. I can thoroughly recommend this tour It was a great way to see and experience many aspects of Japan.

Wish we could spent more time in Enoshima. Ninety minutes was too short, maybe leave earlier or eliminate one other tour.

It was long

It was lengthy and only Kamakura was significant. I wouldn’t do it again. The shorter trip would be better. My teenage daughters did not like it at all!

Great Tour, get to see a lot of things

Shima was a great tour guide! This allows you to see a maximum amount of Kamakura in a short amount of time. Yes, you get approximately 30-45 minutes per temple/shrine, but if you don't want the hassle of organizing this trip and the transportation on your own it is worth it. The lunch was okay, but there was plenty of things to try and plenty of other places to grab snacks as well. Would take again.
