Overview

Immerse yourself in the captivating history and rich culture of Nikko on a partially guided, full-day tour from Tokyo. Delve into the eventful Tokugawa era during a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and then venture to the extravagant Edo Wonderland, a colorful enclave in which geishas, samurais, and ninjas roam amid period villages. Watch an entertaining theatrical show to catch a glimpse of Japanese culture and enjoy convenient round-trip transportation from Tokyo.
  • Full-day trip from Tokyo to Nikko National Park, the Toshogu Shrine, and Edo Wonderland
  • Learn about the venerable Toshogu Shrine from your knowledgable local guide
  • See the famous carving of the three wise monkeys depicting ‘hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’
  • Take in the natural beauty of Nikko National Park and look for wild monkeys
  • Step into the past with a visit to Edo Wonderland, a 17th-century theme park
  • Watch performances of traditional Japanese theater as well as samurai and ninja demonstrations
  • Rent kimono, ninja, or samurai costumes to wear
Greet your knowledgeable guide at select pickup locations in Tokyo and depart to Nikko on a comfortable, air-conditioned bus. Head first to the Nikko Toshugo Shrine, a monumental mausoleum of the first Tokugawa shogun, and roam the captivating complex alongside your accomplished guide. See intricate scripting and intriguing carvings of the ‘hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’ monkeys.

After gazing at the impressive Yomeimon Gate, head to one of many excellent eateries for lunch (own expense). Then climb aboard the complimentary shuttle to Edo Wonderland, a historical amusement park bursting with color and charisma.

Stroll the antique streets of the wonderland and travel back in time to 17th-century Tokyo; greet geishas and pass samurais and ninjas as you capture photographs of the impressive surroundings. Watch performances of traditional Kabuki shows in a selection of six theaters and see the atmospheric shadow picture shows that influenced modern anime.

Spend as little or as long as you'd like in Edo Wonderland, and then use your provided public transport ticket to take the local bus and train back to Tokyo.

Rubbish

Totally inappropriate and a waste of a day. Two and half hour bus trip for a 1 hour very rushed tour of Nikko Toshogu (which would have been very interesting if enough time) and then abandoned by the tour leader to make our own way to Edo Wonderland which was only of interest if you have children as it is very childish with limited cultural input. Then make your own way home through as series of bus and train trips (2.5 hours) . All in all, a very long and unfulfilling experience. Our only negative day experienced in a 3 week trip through Japan.

The first part of the tour was very good, the explanations were also very good. For the second part of the tour in Edo Wonderland the time was very short, but was a very nice experience.

This tour is amazing and well worth the money. You will simply get to relax and enjoy your surroundings instead of rushing around. However, my main review regards Take-san, who was our guide. I left my GoPro in a shop, and then began my 40 minute bus journey to the amazing Edo Wonderland. Half way there, I realised it was missing. I contacted the tour company, and they informed me they would try their best to get it back, but it wasn't certain. Long story short, Take-san, despite being busy himself with the remaining members of the tour, retrieved my GoPro and took it to an office in Tokyo, where I received it in perfect condition. Take-san, I am not sure if you will receive this, but I want you to know you are an exceptional human being, and I cannot thank you sincerely enough for your help.

Very good and beautiful. The Ninja park is for kids , not seniors. Be prepared for a long ride and wonderfull mountains.

The tour was well organised, the guide was brilliant, so helpful and knowledgeable. The only downside is it all feels a bit rushed, the timings of the buses to Edo Wonderland made it so that you could either enough time at one or the other, but not at both. We ended up getting the later bus to Edo, but then would have enjoyed an extra hour to experience there. Overall a great tour, and have to say again, brilliant guide.

The trip itself wasn't so bad but everything was so short u couldn't enjoy it. It started with a late start of about 45 min. That cut our visit in Nikko extremely short. Edo wonderland was interesting especially if you are going with children, there's plenty to do and only about 3hrs. All in all, it was an interesting experience with a bus trip and then going back in a regular train. I didn't like that i ended up in Asakusa which was about an hour of traveling time to my hotel in Shinjuku and i was with a 7 year old kid with a 13hrs jetlag, something to consider, you finish your trip at 9pm.

Picked up at hotel and had to find our own way home and didn't get back till 10pm after bus at 5pm then train. Took to shrine but not enough time to see samurai tomb. You had to climb approximately 200 steps but guide did not give us enough time to do this. Should have done this tour by ourselves.

Amazing experience!! Nikko was one of the best places to visit in Tokyo. The tour was in a rush, so be prepared for sightseeing from one place to another in a flash... On the other side we spent around 3 hours in Edo Wonderland and it was so much fun! It is a little bit expensive because every activity over there was extra. The tour covers the entrance and some free shows worth it, but the rest of activities such as costumes, playing traditional Japanese instruments, writing with tint and the rest of handcraft activities were charged separately, so if you want to enjoy the full experience, take money. Overall this is a tour were all family members can enjoy and take bunch of pictures! 3

I wish I had decided to do the second half of the Nikko tour instead of going to Edo Wonderland. For a solo adult traveler, Edo Wonderland was pretty boring. The morning, though, was really nice and our guide was amazing. Not only was she friendly, but she clearly knew what she was talking about and provided interesting historical context for what we saw.

This long tour was the best among our tours in Japan as Nagasaki, Kyoto, Ighasaki, Miyazaki and Tokushima offered by Diamond Princess cruise. The Nikko temple sightseeing was amazing as well as Edo Wonderland. However 3 hours in Edo Wonderland was too much for the activities shown. We suggest to increase more time in Nikko and less in Edo. It will be a perfect trip. Thanks
