Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Make your own way to Dochgarroch Lock, roughly 4.5 miles (7km) southwest of Inverness. At your chosen start time of 9:30am, 11:30am, or 2pm, you'll board your boat and settle in for a 2-hour cruise. Drinks, light snacks, and whisky are available at your own expense.

Glide along the history-rich Caledonian Canal, and cross the waters of Loch Dochfour into the legendary Loch Ness.

If you can tear your eyes from the scenery, then take a look at the onboard sonar that monitors the whereabouts of Nessie. You’ll hear a bleep if she’s thought to be lurking nearby.

Listen out for fun facts about the loch’s past and the legends that surround it. Sights along the route include the inland Bona Lighthouse, Urquhart Castle, and Aldourie Castle, which is now a luxury vacation estate. You’ll even see the crash site of a Wellington bomber aircraft from World War II.

After two hours on the water, you’ll return to the start point to end your cruise.

We had a wonderful time touring the Caledonian Canal, going out onto Loch Ness and viewing Urquhart Castle. Since we went during the off season, the boat was pretty empty, so we appreciated that the tour went on as planned. The only negative about it was that, when we arrived for our scheduled tour, we were informed boat had mechanical problems, and we would have to reschedule. Things happen, we understand. It was just disappointing that neither Jacobite Tours nor Viator contacted us to let us know that rescheduling was necessary. Fortunately, we had the time to adjust, or we would have missed a fabulous time.
A real thrill.

It was windy and the waves hit the deck, it was such a thrill to be on open water. It made me feel really alive. The best part was a fabulous rainbow across the Loch that was really magical, despite not actually meeting Nessie.

Great informative 2 hours cruise - we really enjoyed the unique views from the water of Urquhart Castle and other landmarks. Also, our Captain had an great singing voice and sang beautiful Scottish melodies between attractions. This is a must-do if you are near Loch Ness.
