Great overview of Maori culture
, Mar 2020
Loved this excursion! Our guide was very knowledgeable on the area. The whole tour was lovely. My favorite was the Maori cultural performance, such beautiful traditions. The i was able to try kiwi fruit ice cream at the kiwi fruit orchard, which I liked, and traditional Hangi at the cultural site.

Yes, Maori Culture is rich & fascinating & we're pleased you enjoyed several aspects of it - and the kiwifruit ice-cream. Thank you for taking the time to write this review.
Cultural delight

Worth every cent. Performance was entertaining and educational. The geysers and mud field were interesting. A school showing their artistry and of course a gift shop. The facility had a full service restaurant as well as a small Cafe for take away. The grounds are beautiful.

We're pleased you felt the tour was value for what was paid & enjoyed it. We think that the venue, Te Puia, has so much to offer when cruise-ship passengers need a snap-shot of Maori culture in a limited time. And we agree that the grounds are beautifull! Thank you so much for your review.
Tauranga excursion with driver-guide Paul.
, Mar 2019
It was Tauranga excursion during the cruise Australia-New Zealand. Because of this excursion duration we ask company about more early start . We met our group in 7:30 am and it was good to be in time for boarding ship. Our driver-guide was excellent. Paul showed along the road beautiful forests of his country with unusual fern trees , Manuka bushes which flowers are source for very valuable and expensive honey and so on. He told about pines for wood and paper industries. He showed lakes and told about environment defense with water, wind and solar source of energy(but not nuclear plant). He invited us in kiwi farm and explained how unusual this fruits and defense of them from strong winds by tall live green fence. Then time was for meeting with Geothermal geysers, mud ponds, lakes wrapped by steam clouds. This was unforgettable experience in spite of our memory about Yellowstone national park (Wyoming, USA). Then Maori history and their concert. This folk program was interesting but all explanations by Paul in this area and museum were great. There we saw how Maori from Polynesia arrived in New Zealand, their tools and weapon, how they made their fabric, how they made canoe and were the ancient sailors, carved their wood masterpieces, decorating their ships and religion subjects... Returning back we had new information and saw again this green road. So it was the beautiful sunny day with blue sky and new view on NZ and all this knowledge were given by high skilled person Mr.Paul. God bless him and his very interesting country.

This tour was one of the highlights of our travels through New Zealand and the credit has to go to our excellent guide, Bronwyn. She did a great job guiding us to the essential Rotorua highlights and efficiently using our time there. The sights were all great to see but I think the best part of this tour was that Bron was able to give me some insight into the character of the New Zealand people themselves and how it was shaped by their history and culture.

We had a wonderful day with Paul Marston at the wheel of our bus. He livened the sights with his own special brand of commentary from the time we pulled away from the dock until our return several hours later.

Had an amazing day at Rotorua with our guide Paul who was very knowledgeable. On the way there we visited a kiwi farm which was very interesting. At Rotorua the mud pools and geysers were spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the workshops together with the Maori culture show. Unfortunately there was insufficient time to look round the excellent gift shop. All in all a great day out.

An enjoyable trip, but felt that some of the tour was a little rushed. Don't attach any blame to the tour guide, who has to work within time line of ensuring we are all back to ship on time. As a result one item of the tour was missed.

This was a fantastic tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, very friendly, took us to more places than were listed and because of his contacts at each attraction we didn't have to queue.

Enjoyed this tour and Sandy our guide and host was around early in the morning outside the port gates to greet us. There was about 12 of us in a mini bus and it was comfortable. The drive to Tauranga is over an hour, sometimes over beautiful countryside. Brian is very informative and has a witty and cheeky sense of humour - all good on a long journey. At Rotorua we not only get to see the famed thermal springs and walk through the park area, we take in an Indigenous show of dance, songs and performances from the local Maori landowners. Very interesting! Lunch at the lake was standard cafe fare. On the way back we stopped at one of the large Kiwifruit farms and the ice cream was heavenly and free! Well no so as we were told on leaving the farm that the staff mistook us for another tour that had ice-cream tasting included but not ours. Sandy like a good driver made haste to the ship! On the way back Sandy took the scenic coastal strip where elegant homes lined the shores, the magnificent beaches with rolling surf no doubt the main attractions.

This was a small group tour of Rotorua with direct pick-up from our ship in Tauranga. The guide was knowledgeable and fun, and with the activities undertaken and the amazing sights encountered, we had a most enjoyable day. This tour is highly recommended. Small intimate groups are always better then big bus tours.

Sixteen of us from Singapore had booked a 1-day Rotorua tour with Tauranga Tasting Tours and Charters. Paul, the proprietor, was our driver and coach. His long years of experience showed. As we drove by the beach road of Tauranga, he could even tell us the price increases of several of the residential properties! And because of his vast knowledge that he wanted to share, he didn't tolerate interruptions to his presentations. The lakeside cafe he drove us to for a late lunch was pleasant.

This was a great day. We met our tour guide Rick, at the cruise port. The tour had a total of 7 people, all of us from the same ship. Rick was a gracious, knowledgable and fun guide. He made the area come alive with its historical and current issues. The village and geothermal spring was a highlight

This is a small group tour in a van to Te Puia. We also stopped at a Kiwi Fruit farm. There were also some stops for views. The sound system in the van was garbled making it difficult to understand the narration. The lunch stop was unremarkable and at your own expense. I wish we had just taken a walk along the waterfront which was very pretty. The tour left a little time to explore the waterfront of Tauranga but not much else and it looked like a really nice place. Jenny our guide was very nice.
