Sydney Taronga Zoo opened in 1916 and has since become a major force for animal care, research, and conservation. You can take the ferry from Circular Quay to the zoo, a scenic ride that gives you stunning waterside views of the harbor city. Don’t miss a ride on the Sky Safari cable car, which whisks you high above the zoo grounds, giving you a bird’s-eye view of zoo inhabitants like elephants and big apes. It also provides photo ops of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.

Your Sydney Taronga Zoo ticket is valid for general admission to the zoo and the Sky Safari, the only cable car in Sydney. Once inside the zoo, proceed around ten themed areas where the animals live in surroundings similar to their natural habitats. Some of the featured themes focus on Wild Australia, the Great Southern Oceans and Wild Asia. During the daily keeper talks, you can witness in-depth presentations about specific animals such as Tasmanian devils, giraffes, lemurs, little penguins, and koalas.

Other optional activities such as animal encounters and guided tours can be booked at your own expense. Education Officers can offer you and your family a learning experience with live animals and plants in their natural environments, and develop an understanding of wildlife of all types.

I really enjoyed going to Taronga, it was my favourite place as a kid and it didn't let me down this visit either. I can't wait for the new attractions to be opened for my trip next year.

Lovely day out, but do watch out for the weather/construction in progress

Gondola not in operation due to high winds, Savannah section also under refurb. Nevertheless made for a lovely day out with generally well-planned exhibits and animals that generally look comfortable in their homes. The regular ferry from Circular Quay, payable using the Opal card comes often enough.

We loved the zoo! Once we figured out how to purchase our ferry tickets and where to board, it was smooth sailing. The cable car from the zoo entrance to the top was a great feature that allowed us to take a few good pictures, and the trails and signage at the zoo was were really good. We enjoyed all the exhibits, animals, talks, and shows. The sea lion show was especially fun to watch. We're in our 70's and we had a great time. The photo ops are outstanding.
