Departure Point

Sydney Opera House, Bennelong Point Easy walk from Circular Quay Train Station, Sydney, New South Wales 2000 Australia
Your tour of the Sydney Opera House gives you an insider's perspective on one of the world’s most famous performance venues, where more than 1,500 concerts, ballets, musicals, and plays are staged every year. Check out areas that are off-limits to the general public, learn about the distinctive exterior design made up of ‘shell’ tiles, and hear about the opera house’s Danish architect, including his inspiration and building challenges. Walk through the elegant foyers, visit one of the largest pillar-free chambers in the world, sit down in a custom-made white birch chair and look up at the vaulted ceiling.

Explore in depth during your tour with a knowledgeable guide, who shares fun facts about the opera house’s history, architecture, and the thousands of performances that have taken place there since it opened in 1973.

Opera Kitchen Tasting Plate: Upgrade your tour to include a tasting plate for two at Opera Kitchen, an indoor-outdoor gourmet cafe on the lower level of the opera house plaza. The tasting plate presented in two tasting boxes includes fresh seafood, mini burgers and succulent salads, and is designed for two people to share. You may purchase cocktails, beer, or perhaps of a glass of Australian wine to accompany your food (own expense).

Opera Bar Dining Option: With the Sydney Opera House as its backdrop and gun-barrel views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it is not surprising that Opera Bar has become a favorite Sydney experience. Live like a local and join us for a meal at Opera Bar after your tour. We've picked our favorites—beer-battered fish & chips, roasted cauliflower salad, and Jack's Creek Angus rump. You may purchase cocktails, beer, or perhaps of a glass of Australian wine to accompany your food (own expense).

Opera House Tour

Excellent tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable about the facility. We saw most of the theaters and learned the history of each one since some today are not used as they were initially. We recommend this tour.

Great time and $$ well-spent!

I enrolled in the 1st tour of the morning. At promptly 9:00 we were greeted and told where to store backpacks and large pocketbooks. Our young guide was excellent, and very knowledgeable. There were steep steps to climb and dark space to walk through single file, so be warned if you have any problems walking. I have dreamed for years of traveling to Sydney and taking this backstage tour was awesome!

Sydney Opera House

TheOpera House is beautiful! However, the tour was long, long winded, and not too informative. The tour info said it was 200 steps. However, it was waaay over 8,000 steps. Plus, there was no signage providing information regarding the location of places to view. Overall, we enjoyed seeing the building and will remember it as one of the highlights of our trip.

On the day of the tour the weather was bad, so we couldn’t get to see the outside structures. But it didn’t spoil the amazing inside tour & tour guide.

If you do no other tour in Sydney, do this one. Absolutely wonderful. Our guide was great. You can always see the opera house from the outside but this takes you inside and makes you realize what a great architectural feat the Opera House is.

Beautiful building; excellent tour. Wish the tour would have taken us backstage and other areas of the concert/opera hall. Still thought it was a wonderful tour. Our guide explained the architectural history of the building, which was very interesting.

Enjoyable

Informative guides provided 1 hour of fascinating titbits of Opera House history, maintenance & random facts as they took us ( single mum with a 12 year old ) to explore the inner three shells including the theatres. You are able to ask questions along the way. Backpacks ( any bag etc. larger than A4 ) must be checked at a clock room. There are over 200 stairs which many over their 70’s in our group navigated easily. Photos are permitted but only in areas where it will not cross copyright laws for the performances that the House is currently showing. There is easy access from the tour to the Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay & ample food choices of which the tour supplies a discount card for.

Very interesting, but no photos

Tour was informative and it was fun to get into some of the concert halls, but disappointing not to be able to take any photos. They do photograph you at the start and photoshop you into several nice photos which you can purchase in a book for $50. You can also get these photos online later. We found the tour to be informative and well done, a good use of our morning and such an iconic landmark of the area.
