If you’re the kind of visitor who likes to learn about the places you visit and live like the locals do, then this is the tour for you. Meet your group and guide at a central location and stroll down the historic Main Street, which dates from the 17th century, on the way to the Fort Christian Museum. Learn about this remarkable red building, once used as a police station and the governor's mansion. Stop to see where the Emancipation Proclamation was read in 1848, now called the Emancipation Garden. Learn that the Danes used the 99 Steps to navigate St. Thomas' hills.

Stop by several local restaurants serving local delicacies such as calaloo, fried pate, and local seafood. Your food tastings will be accompanied by the island's local Bushwacker, a frozen drink made from chocolate, coconut, and rum.

After walking the historical streets and having tasted many of the islands delightful cuisine, you'll end this tour with a deeper connection and appreciation for St.Thomas.

Walk, Learn, Eat, Laugh!

What a fun outing! Not only did we get a really interesting history of the island, but our host, Gerard, answered every one of our questions about island life with candor and interest. He showed how much he loves the island, its history, its culture, and of course its food! Each of the four food stops we made was just as good as the next, and we got a tremendous feel for the flavors that make St. Thomas and the Caribbean so much culinary fun! All of the hosts at the food establishments were gracious and happy to share their food with us. Our tour had only five guests -- the four in our party and a fifth person who became a friend for the afternoon! As did our guide Gerard! It was a perfect day of learning, laughing, eating and drinking...definitely worthwhile!

I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and it was great to hear about the history of the island. The food options were great, and it wasn’t too far of a walk.

Loved this tour, Gerard talked to us like we were friends coming to visit and he was sharing his love of his (expatriate) homeland. So much fun history, amazing food and great company. I felt privileged to experience many places that the locals know about, that I would have probably missed as a tourist. Thank you for the opportunity for this experience of history and food!

They will take your money and no tour!!

I paid my money and didn't go on the tour and they refused my refund. Dont trust the time printed on your confirmation ticket! It will be wrong and they will NOT take responsibility for it or provide you refund. They wouldnt even try to accommodate me although the culture tour was the highlight of my vacay. They totally ruined it! Tried to call several times, they stopped answering the phone! The ticket had the wrong time! Do not book this tour unless you wanted to be disappointed and miss the one thing you wanna do on your vacay!

You are the first and only person to report this problem. Viator sends thousands of confirmations with no confusion. We held the food tour (which always departs at 10am) for you for more than a half hour. After we answered your phone call, we offered you a replacement date. I suggest you explain the situation to Viator who is always accommodating to their customers. Gerard

We really enjoyed our food tour in Saint Thomas. Gerard is an engaging raconteur with a passion for his home and its people. We enjoyed tasting local dishes that we would never find at home, like conch fritters and salted cod quiche. One of the more interesting treats was a sort of empanada filled with a delicious ground beef filling, sold at an ice cream shop. The places we visited were inspirational in the way that the owners and staff rose to the challenges of the recent hurricanes, and the history of the island and its people, as recounted by Gerard, was enchanting. Definitely better than wandering around the tourist shops that surround the cruise port. If you can, you should book this tour on your visit to Saint Thomas.

Gerard was a great tour guide; knowledgeable of the history of the island and offered interesting insight into local life. Of course the food we tasted was delish. But for the tour, we wouldn’t have tried the visited food venues and would have missed out on a few local favorites. Best recommendations for sightseeing and dinner!! Gerard- we tried Mirador- perfect dinner spot. Thanks!!

Gerard was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and just a fun guy to be around! Variety of food samples was also very good and appetizing. We highly recommend Gerard's walking tour. Do the tour at the beginning of your trip because he gives you lots of recommendations for places to visit while on the island!
