Pompeii & Vesuvius w/Wine Tasting and lunch

Our guide, Febrizio, was wonderful! He had a lovely sense of humor and lots of great information to share. He decided to change the order of the day and have us visit Vesuvius in the morning and that was an excellent plan! His reason was due to better light and visibility in the morning to view Vesuvius. It turned out better to me because I felt trying to hike to the top of Vesuvius in the afternoon, after walking around Pompeii for quite a while and after eating our wonderful lunch, would most definitely had been much more of a challenge - at least for me personally. Febrizio informed and entertained with his lovely sense of humor and his knowledge of our historical visitation sites. The lunch and wine tasting was very good and much needed after the Vesuvius experience. My husband and I agreed that the day was a highlight of our dream vacation to Italy! Thanks so much for a great experience!

Excellent Excursion

The guide on our trip was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful throughout. The lunch at the Vineyard with the wine tasting was so good, we even bought some of their wines. The walk up Vesuvius after lunch made us puff a bit, but again, was very well worth it. Overall a very good value trip

Pompeii & Vesuvius with Wine Tasting and Easy Lunch

The guide was exceptional in his knowledge of the area and the history and archeology of the area. The wine tasting would be good for individuals that may not have this type of experience, but think it could have been eliminated. The Mt. Vesuvius portion was very exciting and the climb rigorous but well worth the trip. If their is anything that is negative about this, was that there were 28 people on the trip, which was a bit large for us and too long (10 hours) otherwise good trip

Quick Tour of Pompeii, loved the climb

Loved, loved, loved the climb up Vesuvius. The views of the bay of Naples are magnificent. The climb is a pretty steep incline, but doable. The climb is optional if someone in the group is unable to complete that kind of physical activity, you have to pay for the entry to climb. It's 10 euro per person. Thought the views were worth it. Be aware there's only about an hour to complete- so plan your pace. Winery was ok, I liked the wines personally but the lunch is light- spaghetti (no meat) and some bread. We are gluttonous Americans so we were still hungry after. Pompeii is also a must-see. Our tour guide was a wonderful, retired Italian school teacher. You could tell, she maintained the group like a seasoned veteran. The site is very large, if you want to completely explore everything you will need more than 2 hours. We were pleased overall, but if you have a major history buff in the group you may want to plan time to return and explore the entire area of Pompeii.

Poor value for money

We were picked up at our hotel as planned, but dropped off 300 metres down the road where we waited half an hour for the ‘big bus’. We then spent an hour picking up within a 500 metre radius. The wine tasting lunch was less than a glass of wine with pasta and tomato sauce. We then had a very rushed one and a half hours in Pompeii. Tour guide was good but quality of tour poor.

Disorganised

Tour guide was good but quality of tour was not good value for money. We got picked up as agreed at 8.15 but then dropped off 300 metres down the road to wait for the ‘big bus’! We waited almost half an hour. Then spent almost an hour picking up other people within a 500 metre radius. The wine tasting lunch was poor. Bowl of pasta with tomato sauce, and less than a glass of wine overall. Then felt rushed around Pompeii.

Good day out

Enjoyed the day, the people managing vesuvius need to sort the facilities out though - not a good state! Pompeii was ok for a taster and the guides were great! Could do with extending the day a little to have more time for a drink/snack in the morning - its a long run from breakfast to the lunch stop! Lunch was better than expected - enjoyed the stop over!

Nice day for the tour.

Picked up on time and had reserved the front seat for the best view of the ride. Hike was moderate to the crater - go as early as possible. Trip to wine tasting and small pasta lunch. Three types of wines to taste - just 3 small tastes served by waiter. Then to Pompei and was hot in the afternoon. Dropped off across from Hotel and enjoyed the day and the guides.

Unorganized

Very unorganized. We stood in line to buy the ticket for Pompeii for over 1/2 hour. The guide could have taken our money and bought it faster. This was supposed to be a small group tour (less than 19). Every seat on the big bus was filled! We were supposed to be dropped off near our hotel (which we paid extra for) and was left somewhere far from our hotel at the end of the tour! I own a travel agency in Florida and will not recommend this tour to any of my clients.

GreatGuide, But all the Good Ends There

The guide di a great job and he should be working for a better company. When our group got to Pompeii, there was no provision for getting tickets for the whole group. Everyone in the group had to stand inline with everyone else, including walk-ins. Then many of us had to again stand in line to use the toilet before going into Pompeii. This wasted at least 45 minutes. The guide did a great job guiding us around Pompeii. Then we left for the dismal "wine tasting and tasty lunch". I have been on several wine tasting lunches. All of them offered probably 5 lunch courses paired with a wine for each course. On this so-called lunch and tasting, we were given, in succession, two white wines. Then there was one red wine poured, which was supposedly paired with the lunch. Lunch consisted of a plate of spaghetti with a side of bread drizzled with olive oil. Then they thanked us and sent us on our way. The visit to Vesuvius was just OK, nothing exciting or to much complain about. Those who didn't / couldn't hike to the crater had to stand around for over an hour, because there were really no seats at the concession stand. And, on a quite hot and humid day, the tour didn't even have bottles of water for the guests. All in all, taking this tour was a complete waste of time and money. If it weren't for the guide, who did what he could, I would give this tour and tour company zero stars, because they don't deserve even one.
