Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Board your climate-controlled minibus and relax on the journey inland to Pompeii. Once you arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage–listed archaeological digs, meet your guide and head off on a tour to discover Pompeii’s highlights.

As you explore, learn about the destructive volcanic eruption of AD 79 that buried the ancient city for centuries. The ash and molten lava that streamed out of Mt. Vesuvius preserved the town remarkably, and many original landmarks can be found around the site. See the old public baths, the Macellum (market), and the Temple of Jupiter, and hear about their history from your guide.

After a break for lunch at your own expense, continue with a drive up the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. Stretch your legs on a short hike up to the crater’s lip and learn about the infamous volcano from a mountain guide. Make use of some free time to gaze out over the Bay of Naples, then return to your transport for the drive back to Sorrento.

Good guide creates the weather!
Dmitrij_B
, Jul 2021
The bus was big, comfy, with good conditioning. We liked the program and the content of the tour. But the main thing is always the guide. Sasa did a great job - created a really relaxed and fun atmosphere in the group, introduced the content in a very clear manner, was supportive and structured. A real Pro! We learned many new things without any efforts and also had a lot of fun. Thank you!

So interesting!

The tour through Pompeii took almost three hours. Guides Francesca and Ornella were awesome. There was so much to see and so many stories to tell! I learned a lot that day. Going up to the top of mount Vesuvius was tough after that long walk in scorching heat. It definitely takes MORE than 20 minutes for a healthy young adult to walk all the way up. I wish someone had given us more information about that. It took too much time, so we had to return sooner than expected although we would have liked to stay longer on that site.

This tour was not worth the money paid. Unfortunately we had a hard time understanding our tour guide Carmella. She has a lovely personality with charm and cheeriness. But her accent is so strong we had a hard time understanding her. I estimate that I could not understand 50% or more of the words she said. For example when she would show us something in Pompeii she might start off by giving us some simple information like: “here is where they would store the grain and the people would come here to bake the bread” but then most of the additional interesting things she would tell us we could not quite understand. We were disappointed. We ended up frustrated and we felt we would have learned a whole lot more about Pompeii if we had simply paid for one of the recorded audio tours at the front gate. In addition, the downside of going with a group is limited time to see more within the ancient city. we would have liked to have time to see the new Antiquarium, which was reopened after decades and features artifacts. Instead, we were steered towards an expensive restaurant for lunch which was ($35.00 for two persons-which Carmella said was a "light" lunch but was either pasta and pizza and salad.) and wasted more than an hour there before heading to Mt Vesuvius. Best to do this trip independently for a fraction of the cost and have more time in Pompeii and see the Antiquarium.

Great Tour Guide, But Try To Avoid The Heat (And Vesuvius)
Clara
, Jul 2021
Our tour guide was excellent! I am glad we booked a tour guide for the tour of Pompeii. However, if could do it again, I would not go to Pompeii in July. It was just too hot to truly appreciate the experience, and the tour was about 2.5 hours of standing outside in the hot sun. I would also NOT go to Mt. Vesuvius, as it was just way too hot and there is no shade whatsoever. Also, the trail to hike Mt. Vesuvius is very steep and made of loose gravel which is hard to hike on. While that is not the tour company’s fault at all, it was just a miserable experience that resulted in me getting too hot and then throwing up repeatedly on the tour bus. If you do go, make sure you take Dramamine with you! The roads leading to Mt. Vesuvius are serpentine. All in all, everything that was under the tour company’s control was amazing!

Dear Clara, thank you very much for your kind feedback ! We would like all our travellers to enjoy the beuty of the view from the top of the Volcano Vesuvius.. but sometimes the weather doesn't help us! There sare some benches on the path, so we usually suggest to sit and rest for a while before continuing the walk to the crater's edge! We hope you to come back in September or October, to join a "fresher" walk till the top of our sleeping giant ! We are happy that you liked Pompeii with our amazing tour guide ! Hope to see you soon, Graziana

Once in a lifetime experience
Jacklyn_J
, Jun 2021
Our day started off early and met with the group and our guide Roberta just down the street from our hotel. Once there we walked and got on a huge bus where Marco was waiting for us. Roberta was an exceptional guide, giving us both historical and her personal ancestral facts throughout the bus ride. It was hot in Pompei, nonetheless, we enjoyed every single minute of it. Short lunch break before leaving Pompei for Mt Vesuvius. Both husband and children were so impressed with Marcos driving up the mountain - it was narrow, curvy and steep. This man deserves a raise (Roberta, too) for the way he drove the huge bus up and getting us there safely. Big kudos!!! After a small hike up the mountain, took pictures and had ice cream at the summit it was time to go home. We learned a lot of history from this trip. We will definitely recommend this to family and friends.

Great day out
tom_barbour
, Jul 2020
Excellent day trip and our guide was extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii. Plenty of time factored in for breaks and lunch. We then headed to Vesuvius in the afternoon - it's a 20 minute climb and challenging in the heat but the views and experience are worth it.
