Hugo was a fabulous guide, lots of hard real life History plus everyday anecdotes. Travelling from Canada, first time in Portugal, we recommend this tour wholeheartedly, very well put together one day trip of Sintra, Cascais, Cabo da Roca, and Estoril. Bravo Hugo.

We had a terrific experience with Joaquin Lopes. He taught a lot about Portugal history with passion and humor, including the love of Inez de Castro and Pedro which I am sure Hollywood will oick on some day. Definitely recommend!

Our tour guide “J-lo” was so friendly and informative! He gave detailed explanations of everything we drove by, the places we visited and the history of the country. The palace tour and city exploring was self guided but he made amazing recommendations for where to go and what to eat! One of the best tours I’ve been on!

Thoroughly enjoyed my day with Joaquim. The tour started on time with Joaquim collecting me from my hotel. From the moment of collection Joaquim made me and fellow traveller/s feel welcome. Joaquim’s went out of his way to show points of interest on the route and was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend a tour with Joaquim.

A wonderful day with our guide Rui!

We had a fantastic day with our guide Rui! He constantly went out of his way to ensure we had a great day. He was very knowledgeable about Portugal, and was flexible to change the itinerary based on our preferences. Parts of Sintra were closed due to wildfires, so Rui improvised and took us to some other beautiful places in the surrounding area.

A very good day

Sintra was interesting and as our guide intimated seeing the interior of Peña Palace was not worth it. None of the artifacts are original, it’s very crowded etc. Seeing “the end of the world” was worth it, as was Cascais.

Joaquim is an awesome guide. He told us many interesting history stories along the way. We didn't get to see the Sintra palace due to the closing of the mountain. Joaguim updated the tour accordingly and we still had a wonderful time at the end of the trip. We highly recommend Joaquim and this tour.

We Made a new "Friend"
Karen_R
, Jun 2022
I had to laugh at the reviewer who started out: "My friends," stating that we would understand :-). Joaquim's most common refrain included the phrase: "my friends." He was friendly, and I believe he was sincere. We were two couples traveling together and we thoroughly enjoyed our day with Joaquim. I have read the other reviews, and I think the critical ones need to get a perspective and manage their expectations a bit. This was a day-long driving tour for 84E. In this day and age, that seems like a great deal to me. A careful reading of the "what to expect" section reveals that Joaquim did exactly what was promised. We were fortunate not to have to wait long for entrance to the palace - maybe an hour from the time we got in line to buy tickets to the time we entered the palace. That included a line for the shuttle up the hill and back, as well as entrance. While waiting, we were able to wonder around the palace exterior - which in my opinion is much more worthy of my time than the interior. The one negative comment I partially agree upon is the need for all of these operators to may have some kind of sound-system inside the vehicle, so the passengers in the rear can hear (although I did not have any problem hearing Joaquim from the very back of the van, I have had this issue in past tours around Europe). Joaquim was friendly, entertaining, and very approachable to answer questions. On the "constructive suggestions front," if I were to design this tour personally, I would probably skip Cabo Roca and Cascais. They were cool enough places, but I think in doing them, we missed a major destination: the Moorish Castle. On my next trip to Lisbon, I will certainly make it part of my visit. I would have been very satisfied to grab a refreshment in the village of Sintra - a stop we enjoyed - and skip Cascais and Cabo. Having said that, we still enjoyed the entire tour - which was exactly what we expected - and it is a matter of reasonable expectations, I think :-) - And I have to mention that the restaurant in Cascais which Joaquim recommended had the world's best grilled octopus!
