Overview

Immerse yourself in the colonial history of Singapore on this small-group walking tour of the city’s colonial landmarks with a knowledgeable guide. While you learn about Singapore’s era as a British colony and the lingering British influence, visit cathedrals, stroll through historic streets, and enjoy the view from the Supreme Court viewing deck.
  • Singapore Colonial District Walking Tour
  • Learn about the influence of British colonialism on modern-day Singapore
  • Enjoy spectacular views of Singapore from the viewing deck of the Supreme Court
  • Hear the fascinating tales of French missionaries at the CHIJMES building
  • Enjoy a personalized experience with a maximum of nine travelers
Your walking tour starts near City Hall, where you’ll meet your guide, a Singapore history buff with plenty of interesting information to share about the period of time when Singapore was a colony of Great Britain, beginning in the early 1800s when British officer Stamford Raffles arrived and ‘founded’ modern-day Singapore. This fusion of Eastern and Western influences led to the fascinating, culturally rich destination that Singapore is today.

With your guide, begin your tour at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, an Anglican church founded in the mid-1800s as a place of worship for British officials. It was also used to take care of wounded victims of the Battle of Singapore during the Japanese invasion in World War II.

Then walk along Coleman Street and St. Andrew's Road to see remnants of early colonial architecture and the significance of the National Gallery.

Continue on to the Supreme Court of Singapore, where you’ll visit the viewing deck for a nice photo op of the city.

Next, visit the Armenian Church, Singapore’s oldest Christian church, to learn a bit about the city’s Armenian community and admire the church’s architecture. Continue to a third religious landmark, CHIJMES, a Gothic-style Catholic convent turned shopping, dining and entertainment complex that dates back to the 1840s.

Complete your tour at the famous Raffles Hotel, a colonial-style building that's steeped in history and is somewhat of a national monument in Singapore.

When your tour ends, you are free to continue exploring on your own.

Had a fantastic tour of this very fascinating and historic area of the city. Our tour guide Carol Dragon was first class and led the tour in a fun and most informative way. Carol had to adapt the route at last minute due to the Cathedral being closed but was exceptional and a marvellous ambassador for this wonderful city and viator.

A bit disappointed

I thought the tour would show us more colonial buildings and tell us more about the story of colonial Singapore. Instead it was an intro into the judicial system with a long visit to the new courthourse,, which had a great view but taking pictueres was not allowed. it was rather diasappointing and i went on my own to see the colonial buildiings and find the Raffles statue afterwards.

Great tour about some of the history...

Great tour about some of the history of Singapore as the city developed from a fishing village to the high rise city it is today. She also shared information about how the city is run today, e.g. court system. The tour guide, Wei Wei, was excellent. She had an unbelievable set of facts and dates in her knowledge base that she shared freely. She was always conscientious of our physical placement, e.g. in shade, to keep us a cool as possible. I would recommend the tour.
