Stop At:
The Rock of Gibraltar
The Rock of Gibraltar is full of interesting history dating back to the year 711A.D when Tarik Ibn Zeyad, a Berber leader of the Arab Governor of North Africa “Musa Ibn Nosseyer” landed at the Southern end of the rock. The word Gibraltar is a derivative of the Arabic words ”Jebel Tarik” which means Tariks Mountain, and so his memory lives on.

Just OK

The tour itself was more or less as expected- a taxi to and from Gibraltar. It’s a 2.5 hour drive each way. Once there you get a different bus to drive you around the island and stop at the caves. There is then an hour and a half of free time to get lunch. The problem is it’s not really enough time to do much of anything, and it skips over other highlights like the cable car, WW2 caves and other things that we wanted to see. Each stop we basically had to run though to meet the time limit, and not enough time to read any info signs. The free time is just enough to get some food but not enough to shop or do any other exploring/sightseeing. We had a few problems with our tour- selected hotel pickup but didn’t get it (had to walk 15 min to a pickup point), and the return drive was 3 hours and they didn’t stop for a bathroom break, and there were none on the bus. If you absolutely have to visit Gibraltar for the lowest cost to say you’ve been there, then this tour would achieve your goal. I would be hesitant to recommend it though- you’re better off paying extra for a semi private or private tour. Lastly, if you want a passport stamp (yes, these are big souvenirs for some people) you can’t get one on a tour, you have to go privately outside the peak border crossing hours and request it. We contacted the tour operator about the problems and they didn’t bother responding. There doesn’t appear to be a way to contact Viator directly about problems post-tour so buyer beware.

Very Interesting!

The history of Gibraltar is really interesting. The fact that it’s a British territory instead of Spanish was a surprise. Our tour guide on the way to Gibraltar was really good and better than the tour guide in Gibraltar. The tour bus stopped at a couple of scenic lookouts for some great pics. Even though it was cloudy, one of the main highlights was seeing the outline of the Northern coast of Africa. Another stop was the famous cave. It was just ok; however, the monkeys outside were awesome! The tour ended in downtown. They allowed us two hours for shopping and dining. Shopping is big in Gibraltar due to no taxes but I wasn’t that impressed. Evidently great prices on tobacco and alcohol. The other really highlight was walking across the airport runway to exit Gibraltar. You either drive or walk across the airport runway entering and leaving Gibraltar!

Terrible

The guide was good, but the tour was terrible. 5 hours of driving for 1 attraction. I wanted to see the siege/world war 2 tunnels, but due to the location and our timing, it was not possible. Too much free time in a dirty shopping area, and not enough sightseeing. Make the tour longer or scrap it.

This tour was absolutely the highlight of my 2 weeks in Spain and Portugal. The palaces are stunning, both inside and the gardens. Going to the westernmost point in Europe was a cool experience. I cannot day enough nice things about our guide, Guilherme. Guilherme had tons of information about the sites we saw, Portuguese history, and local culture! He also had some excellent food suggestions. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon.

Easy way to visit Gibraltar without thinking where to park or how to cross the border, but I think that there was much more to visit there and that it could've been better organized. Roman was ok as a guide, but limited with his explanations, we learnt everything about olives and olive oil, even though there is much more to learn about Andalusia, he also recommended some restaurants to visit in Sevilla claiming that there were not touristic, but actually when we checked it turned that they couldn't be more touristic

Gibraltar Day Trip.

Average tour with little attractions at the end of a 2.5hr bus trip each way. The tour guide tried hard to keep the trip flowing. Older people on the tour struggled a little with the distance required to walk from the check point to the Gibraltar bus station.

More monkey time :)

Very fun day. More time with the monkeys would have been useful with less time in the main city area.

Would have preferred to go up in the cable car rather than a bus

Not sure if it was worth the money...before committing to this find out the cost to bus from Seville to Gibraltor and the cost of going up in the cable car. That is essentially the ‘tour’ and may be cheaper to do this own your own
