Itinerary
Stop At:
Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos
The Alcázar (castle) of Cordoba, with its thick defensive walls, served both as a fortress and a palace, and is a perfect illustration of the development of Cordoban architecture through the ages. Roman and Visigoth ruins lie side by side with Arabic remains in this magnificent building, which was once the favourite residence of the different rulers of the city. However, when Cordoba was taken by Fernando III «the Saint» in 1236, the former Caliphal Palace was in a pitiful, ruinous state. Alfonso X «the Wise» began the restoration work, which was finished off during the reign of Alfonso XI. It has fulfilled many different functions over the years, such as Headquarters of the Inquisition, or a prison (first half of the 20th century).
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At:
Mezquita Cathedral de Cordoba
the beauty of Córdoba’s great mosque, with its remarkably serene and spacious interior. One of the world's greatest works of Islamic architecture, the Mezquita hints, with all its lustrous decoration, at a refined age when Muslims, Jews and Christians lived side by side and enriched their city with a heady interaction of diverse, vibrant cultures.

Stop At:
Jewish Quarter (Juderia)
Córdoba's old Jewish quarter consists of a fascinating network of narrow lanes, more atmospheric and less commercialised than in Seville although souvenir shops have emerged.

Smart way to visit Córdoba if staying in Seville
Lee

Recommendable! Positives: prompt pick-up (from Seville) and departure (from Córdoba). Román entertained us on the coach trips with historical and cultural knowledge. Travel was comfortable. Area of improvement: Though Ana’s knowledge of history is rich, guiding, in my opinion, is not a lecture, it is an introduction and invite to explore the Alcázar, the Juderia and the Mezquita. Tourists visit sites to personally encounter the historical spaces, not listen to a lecture (which a podcast, audio tour, travel guidebook or scholarly reference adequately provides).

I thoroughly enjoyed the small group trip with Sergio to Córdoba. The journey was explained well and we had a delicious lunch in a local restaurant. Never felt rushed and as well taken care of from pick up to drop off.

Anna was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable and personable. However, it was difficult for everyone to find the bus when it was time to leave.

Scorching in Cordoba

Tour guide was terrible - way, way too much talking and not allowing her visitors view and see the sites of the tour. She clearly thought too much of her own voice and knowledge than ensuring her guests enjoyed their tour. To cap off a bad tour, the bus had AC failure upon starting it's route back to Seville. The tour guise on the bus was young and inexperienced. When he was asked to make a stop and get water and drinks for everyone, we just said we needed to push on and get back on time. Well, when the inside of the bus is now 42 degrees, you'd think he would know its vital to have people with liquids and the oppty to stop as required. It was borderline dangerous to be in that heat and condition for a 2 hour bus journey. When we talked to the tour operator in Seville the following day, they simply ignored our complaints and made reference to the bus being a Mercedes and a good vehicle. Overall, a bad day and experience.

My trip took place on a Sunday and, according to the trip’s description, we were supposed to leave earlier than the other days. However, such was not the case: I was picked up at 10:15 and we still had to go to other hotels to pick other pick. Our guide never bothered to introduce himself to all of us, there were no descriptions/comments along the trip. Somehow, we managed to lose 5 people while in Córdoba, in the cathedral. The local guide, José, did a wonderful job and was very knowledgeable. He tried to deal with the lost tourists but to no avail. After visiting the cathedral, we were told we were heading back to Seville, without eating...why start a trip 2 hours behind schedule and not inform the participants of the putative schedule? There was never any mention of skipping lunch and why that would happen. The guide was very ineffective and procedures were not followed ( tickets never collected, introducing himself, advise people to put on their seatbelts, day schedule). Córdoba is a beautiful place and worth visiting but the guide we had made it stressful and was not very professional, although courteous.

Great tour and my guide in Spanish was excellent Ana. Unfortunately, not a whole day only from 10-2:30. Not enough time to explore on your own

Disorganized Tour Company
Salma S
, Sep 2019
I organized this tour for my family, including my 18 month old and wrote a note when initially booking stating I would need a car seat for her. The tour operator sent a WhatsApp message the day before the tour with the time and location of where to meet (including a statement to be punctual). I sent a message back confirming they would have a car seat and they confirmed that they would. The day of the tour, the bus arrived 20 minutes later than expected and when we got on the bus there was no car seat on any of the seats. I spoke with our tour guide (who was not responsible for arranging for the car seat) and he spoke with the driver who stated no one from the company informed him that he would need to have a car seat available. The tour guide then called the tour company to find out what happened and they stated they did tell the driver that he would need one. Neither party took responsibility. The tour guide informed us that it would not be possible to go back to the office or have someone meet us somewhere with a car seat so we made the decision to go ahead with the tour and hold her. Needless to say, it was a difficult ride there and back - not only were we worried about her safety but she is at the age where she does not sit still and we had to try to distract her for an hour and a half to ensure she did not try to walk around the bus the whole time. My parents were also with me and were worried about her as well. We made it there and back safely, but the lack of owning their mistake and denying me a refund because 'we rode in a Mercedes bus which had Mercedes seats and are approved by the Spanish Government" (what does that even mean?!), and we decided to proceed with the tour instead of canceling it. Yes, I did decide to go ahead with the tour because it was our only opportunity to visit Cordoba, was planned months in advance and was something we were all looking forward to. The tour itself was informative, but their lack of taking any responsibility for their mistake is what made this experience subpar.
