Departure Point: Your Santiago accommodations in the districts of Providencia, Las Condes (hotels area), Vitacura (hotels area) , or Santiago Centro, or at another meeting point in those districts Dates: Daily Return point: Returns to original departure point
Your day trip starts with hotel pickup from select areas of Santiago (Providencia, Las Condes, Vitacura and Santiago Centro) or at a meeting point. Then begin the drive south of the city to Cajón del Maipo, which sits next to the Andes and marks the start of the road to El Yeso.

El Canelo
Our next destination corresponds to the town of El Canelo, which owes its name to the sacred tree of the Mapuches, which is also found in the wet streams existing in the sector. From here you can access the Purgatory Hill with 2,466 meters high and also enjoy wines and spirits from the area.

Pretty good.

Enjoyable trip. Enough language element could be better as a lot of the your was in Spanish. Very scenic walk to the lake - but a lot of time in the trip doing other things that weren’t as exciting. Could almost offer a shorter trip.

Bad tour guide - Andrea

Our tour guide Andrea was terrible and unorganized and shared very little info. We had a hard time as a group to know what to expect. There were no bathrooms stop for 6 hours and where she finally stopped was terrible. Driver was great though.

Beautiful trip but tour was a bit of a scam

The scenery was gorgeous and I don’t regret going but the “tour” itself was poor. I requested an English tour but our tour guide didn’t speak any English at all. The tour guide also told us it’s very cold and there’s a lot of snow so he took us to a ski rental place to rent boots, pants and even jackets. Pretty sure he gets commission for it because there was barely any snow and none of the gear was necessary (this was end of June). Worst of all, this little scam cut into our time at the mountains and I felt rushed to get back on schedule. So yeah he missed out on a good tip from everyone on the tour. He also barely did any commentary on the tour so I guess I didn’t miss out much. I do highly recommend seeing Maipo but maybe best with a different tour group or go solo!

Diego was a great guide, very impressed with his language skills. The view of the lagoon was beautiful. It was nice the we had the option to rent boots so our shoes would not get ruined. And the Chocolate house was a wonderful way to top off the tour, very yummy selection!

This was a great tour! Very simple but fabulous views and a very knowledgeable and friendly and nice guide who spoke in both Spanish and English which is appreciated. He had enough stops to make it more than interesting and the view at the top was breathtaking. Timing was perfect. Would highly recommend!

Due to the weather the original Plan could not go ahead so was changed. We got nothing to eat or drink on the new itinerary which I think was unfair. The guide was good, made sure we had a good day.

Small-Group Cajón del Maipo Full-Day Tour and Picnic

Our guide Diago picked us up right outside our accomadation. Along the way he shared his knowledge about the area. We stopped off at a restaurent first, onto an area to hire out warm gear if you werent prepared for the snow and then drove to the mountains. The scenery was beautiful both in the bus and walking the 500metres trail to the lagoon. On the way back, we stopped at a chocolate house for ice cream & hot chocolate. Diago was a brillant guide and translated all his info into English for us who didnt speak spanish. Would highly reccommend this tour!

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR. JUAN AND ROXANNE ARE RUDE
Alex_B
, Jun 2022
This was perhaps the worst tour I have ever been on. Firstly we booked a English speaking tour, despite my partner and I speaking Spanish to a conversational level, we knew it would be a long day and would prefer English. Our driver - I wouldn’t even bother to call him a tour guide, who was called Juan did not speak a word of English and made absolutely 0 effort to even attempt to converse with us. Regardless we were fortunate to understand most of what was happening - without any form of information being given to us by Juan about what was the next stop and the general plan for the day. Nothing was mentioned about this. Embarrassing. After 2 hours on the bus we ended up at a little campsite where Juan again didn’t tell us a single thing about why we were there, and then a lady called Roxy or Roxanne tried to insist that we bought boots for our 15 minute flat walk to the lake. When my partner and I said we think we would be ok without she then told another tour member who visibly smirked and laughed at our decision openly in front of everyone. Then came the hike / walk up to the lake - to be fair this was beautiful and the only good part of the entire day. The views were excellent, but again Roxanne was clearly angry with us for not purchasing the boots (which by this time it was clear were not necessary) as Roxanne offered to take a photo of a Spanish speaking couple next to us with the lake behind whilst my partner and I stood there taking a selfie. Of course she didn’t offer to us!! It wasn’t even worth bothering to ask her if that was going to be the attitude. We stayed up by the lake for an hour before heading back down to the picnic site. Who knows what Juan and the other “guide” we’re doing in this time that we were by the lake as when we got back down to the picnic site we had to wait for everything to be set up…! They should have this set up and ready to go whilst the guests are seeing the lake. It is about a 3 minute drive away… Next came the picnic - cheese, crackers and 6 slices of salami between 13 people and a bottle of wine with about 150ml each….we couldn’t believe what we were seeing, the cost of the food must have covered one persons fee for this tour. It took about 15 minutes to even start eating after the other tour guide in yellow trousers was faffing around making a tower out of the wine glasses!! Finally after a quite embarrassing picnic, Roxanne then proceeded to give any left over food to the people who I assume were her friends in the little shop there! She didn’t even bother to ask the paying guests if anyone else would like anymore! We got back into the bus and headed home. Stopped of at a random tunnel that wasn’t even in use, I think this was so Juan could again have his cigarette break and stink out the bus when getting back in. We then stopped at off at a little chocolate shop which was very nice I have to be honest. Finally home time - Juan asked us would we like to be dropped off by the hotel or are we ok to be dropped off close and walk to the hotel. I replied with “no me importa” I don’t mind. Juan then said something which I couldn’t understand and said sorry I don’t understand to which he started laughing at my partner and I so in the end we said fine the hotel is ok. We were dropped off by our hotel and said goodbye. Juan did not even bother to say good bye to us!! The most unprofessional and worst tour I have ever been on. A disgrace. Whatever you do, do not go on this tour with these people. The day was made around them and not around the paying guest. An absolute disgrace.

The view is amazing. Did a little bit of walking but it was not too tiring. We got to stop by many places on the way back as well. Overall it is slow trip but worth it if you have one free day.

That guide couldnt speak english

I had a very bad experince with this Maipo tour. We had booked a tour with a english guide, but I turned out that the guide didnt know anything on english. He could only say godmorning and sorry. Also When we kept asking him to say anything on english he kept ignoring us many times. This was very arkward and not a good service. So we didnt get to hear anything about the places we were visiting. There is a reason why we book with a english, cause we want to know about the places we are visiting. This was disapointing.

Day Trip into the Andes

Diego was a wonderful tour guide. He had a mixed group and had to do it in two languages at the same time! He answered all of our questions and knew so much about the area. Chile is such a gorgeous country and this tour really highlighted that. We got to see a Condor and my first glacier! Thank you Diego for the wonderful memories.

Nice experience with incredible views and time to get along with other people. Picnic is only snacks, so buy empanadas at San Jose de Maipo in the morning when you stop in this small town.

Our guide, Diego, was excellent: super friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was great, small group and everything took place as planned. The picnic is a small affair, so if you think you might get hungry bring your own snacks. 100% would recommend as a day trip from Santiago

Fun and beautiful

Our driver and guide was friendly and informed. The road was beautiful and I loved seeing maipo and I liked the stops they chose. The picnic really just a snack so I would recommend they either make it proper food or just say it’s a snack. There were empanada for sale nearby and I had read the previous reviews so I had a snack with me anyway. No big deal and otherwise it was a perfect day!
