El Yunque Rainforest Tour

Where do I begin! From the pickup at your location to the drop off our tour guide Frankie was absolutely amazing. Personable, friendly, and all around knowledgeable about Puerto Rico and it’s history, which made the experience even more worthwhile! He & Mitchell both made us feel absolutely safe and comfortable. Slightly rigorous if you’re not in shape but I’d recommend anyone who isn’t afraid of a little water and mud to try! The slide, the rope swing. & even the 30 ft jump, yes 30 ft jump was thrilling. It’s so worth the experience. Wear things you don’t mind getting dirty and bring a change of clothes. The food stop at the little local before the hike is perfect because you can grab something to give you just enough energy for the hike. After the hike you will for sure have built up an appetite but don’t worry the lunch stop gives you so many options. Kiosk #20 Red Snapper a must try! Don’t let the 8 hour timeframe scare you off. The day goes by so fast! And bring cash if you want to tip your tour guide. I was so pissed we didn’t have cash on hand. We wanted to tip our guide so bad we even asked if he had Cash App 😫 he didn’t.

Overall a great experience. They pick you up feom a central location in old san juan and the drive over is comfortabke in an AC Van. The hike is muddy so just live in the moment and dont worey about getting dirty. Some parts of the hike require you to get in your knees and butt etc. Its all part of the experience.

Great experience in Puerto Rico!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this trip, it was one of the best experiences I had in Puerto Rico! Of course, El Yunque rainforest is gorgeous, and water activities are a lot of fun. Some parts of the hike are a bit strenuous, but overall not exhausting. If you initially focused on cultural and historical activities - it will be just the right amount of “adventure” ! It suits for anyone who is at least moderately fit, and the key is to get wear the right shoes which would be sturdy enough to protect you from the rocks, and would withstand water and mud and be easily cleaned (I used the hiking sandals and it was ideal combination for me, but be sure the soles are not slippery when wet). Our guides Andre, Mitchel and Ponce were amazing - always ready to help as we scaled rocks and steep areas, but not too controlling. Andre was a wealth of information both about the forest and about almost everything in PR, at the same time very entertaining and carefully planning ahead (and putting the safety first as well). A lot of photos of you are taken from all the best angles and then shared with you, so you could safely leave your phone/camera in the bus in the case you are not sure you can protect them from water... Great snacks during the tour, absolutely delicious fruit. The lunch stop was very nice, giving a feel of real local food. Overall, a very refreshing (in both senses!) experience, highly recommend!

Excellent and refreshing experience

Trip led by Andre Hernandez and his team is certain to be the one of the best experiences one can have in Puerto Rico. Of course, the gorgeous setting of the El Yunque Rainforest is a prerequisite. But it could be fully enjoyed only if there is the right balance between enough freedom to explore and enjoy the surrounding, enough safety to be sure that the adventure will not turn into survival game, and the right doses of information and entertainment. This is the work where the team of Andre excels. Everything was scheduled just right, done at the right time and with the right attitude both towards the people and the nature. Thank you!

UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE!

Jacob, Christian, and Mitchell were AMAZING the entire trip. Jacob does a wonderful job explaining everything you need to know about the rainforest on the way to it. On the way you stop at a little store with tasteful, fresh smoothies. During the hike, all three gentlemen help you by explaining the best paths, how to be safe, and help you up if needed. After the hike and the adventures in the rainforest, you stop to get lunch in Luquillo Beach. Delicious seafood! This excursion exceeded my expectations! I knew it would be fun, but it was amazing! I would do this hike with them all over again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful, unforgettable day Jacob, Christian, and Mitchell. Read less

The beauty of El Junque was unimaginable. The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were helpful in areas where the climb was more difficult and never once complained. They were even willing to take photos and videos of you. I would do it again! Ponce, Mitchell and the main tour guide were absolutely amazing!

Best thing we did!

We loved every minute of this tour! It was the favorite of my entire family (2 adults, 2 children ages 12 and 7). We wanted to see the rain forest, but also to experience it rather than just drive around and look, and get out a couple of times. Fair warning - this is not an easy hike. It is not a stroll along a nice path through the forest. It is strenuous at times, but that's what we loved about it, and it made it fun. The kids had no trouble and loved it. It's a real interaction with the forest, rather than a sanitized tourist experience. The water play at the end of the hike was AWESOME. Guides were all great - informative, looked out for us, and upbeat. BEST thing we did in PR. Thank you!

walked through a muddy trail to get to the river. Our very knowledgeable guide Jacob, pointed out the unique flora and fauna of the forest and we saw some beautiful birds and plants that can only be found in El Yunque. Thanks to Mitchell’s (guide) great eyesight, we were able to see a ‘screech’ owl. The path opened to the river with a lovely view of a water fall. I thought this was where we would play, but I was wrong. We then 3 point climbed to get to some pools higher up. We were lucky the weather was perfect (it is after all, a RAINForest), then the fun really began. We slid down some natural water slides, and for those who were brave, cliff jumping. It was exhilarating. Ponce (guide) brought large leaves and proceeded to use the as plates and then cut up fresh fruit. Nothing is better than fresh pineapple, mango, papaya and avocado eaten in the river with the beautiful wilderness surrounding you. We went to a second pool with more cliff jumping and sliding. The cliff heights through the day varied from 10 feet, to 30 feet and people did what they felt comfortable with. No pressure, just fun. We worked our way down to the beautiful pool from the beginning were the rope swings were used. There was a spotter in the water the entire time, so we felt safe, even the non-swimmers. We were also supplied with life jackets to keep us safe. We wore hiking boots and brought water shoes. Smart choice for us. Don’t bring things up the trail that you don’t mind getting wet. Afterwards, Jacob took us to a fantastic lunch place with authentic and delicious Puerto Rican food. Large portions and the food was excellent. There were vegetarian options and white rice for pickier eaters. The place was part of a fruit stand where fresh produce could be purchased as well as Puerto Rican candies.
