Total misinformation

I feel bad leaving a 1 star review, because I never went on this tour. I do not know if Viator or the tour provided was misinformed, but I was told wrong information about the details of this tour. When booking on Viator through the phone, I was initially told that this tour was 6 hours long - from 6pm until midnight including pick-up. When I received an email from the tour provider, I was told my pick-up would be at 3:20pm with a return by 8pm latest. It was actually a 2 hour tour with almost 3 hours reserved for travel to and from my hotel. If those were the details that I was told, I would have never booked. I tried to cancel and get my money back as soon as I received the time confirmations from the tour provided, but Viator refused because I had booked within 24 hours. HUGE disappointment, and will not recommend Viator or this tour because of it.

A great nature experience

The experience was wonderful, however there is no mention in the description that the tour starts approximately 3 hours before the posted time. We were a group flying into San Juan from different parts of the US and Canada scrambling to make this from our flights. Good thing I had called the day before or we would have had no idea. Aside from that I greatly enjoyed this tour and the bus driver and kayak guides were wonderful. Don't go just for the light up Bay as it's not overwhelming but the mangroves trees at sunset were beautiful.

I called that nothing more than a glorified kayak trip! We were not put in the glassbottom boats due to my weight and then put me in a kayak that I had problems getting out of because I have had past knee surgeries!! Then we float around for 40 minutes waiting for the sun to sit when our original reservation was at six which would put us out there at eight but then we ended up having to be there at 3 PM with people flying in that day! Then cover a our heads with a tarp because it was a full moon at night so that we could see nothing in the freaking water don’t waste your money!

Hade a good time and friendly staff. The bioluminescence was not as advertised in the pictures. We went under a tarp to see them in the water. I recommend taking the later tour when it is darker out.

Disappointingly little bioluminescence when we were there
Tom
, Mar 2020
This tour was rather disappointing. We have no issues with the outfitter—they provided everything they had promised in a very efficient and professional manner. The canoes were modern and comfortable, and the guides were courteous and friendly. However, the dinoflagelates chose to be very shy while we were there. We saw only a few faint, widely scattered sparkles in the water. We had scheduled our tour to coincide with the new moon, which is when the “show” is supposed to be the best. However, for some reason there was very little “show” that night. Perhaps the rain earlier that afternoon had temporarily adversely affected the water temperature or water chemistry. I hope that our disappointing experience was a fluke rather than a trend. If our experience is representative of the best this bay has to offer these days, then there really isn’t much reason to take this tour.

Dear Tom, We are sorry the tour fell short on expectations the day you participated. We appreciate your acknowledgment on our service quality and professional staff. As we have clearly advised on the tour description: "The bio bay is an unpredictable natural phenomenon that may be influenced by multiple factors. Bioluminoscity level can vary from very visible to minimum or none without any previous notice." This is why the tour is not only focused on the bioluminescence, but on the aspects of the reserve and entire eco-system participants experience during this adventure. Kind regards,

Nicely organized tour

The pick up was on time, the bus was comfortable, the luminescence was not great due to a pretty bright moon, but that is not the organizer's fault.

Buyer Beware

Was not happy at all. The actual guides were great, but the rest wasn’t good at all. The biggest issue is that when you book you have to give the weights of all passengers. The weights meant that we needed TWO of the bigger boats. The group tried to only bring one. We were told that because one person was heavier that originally reported, but still under the parameters of needing the second bigger boat, our party was going to be split up. We didn’t want that as we wanted the experience as a group. We were so disappointed and half of our group didn’t go. I asked for a partial refund but was refused because of the original weight being wrong. Yes, it was wrong, but still didn’t change the fact that we needed the second boat. Caveat Empour
