Fun experience even though we were rained on! A little spooky paddling in the dark but that’s part of the fun. Would do again.

Full Moon Biolum

What a fun trip! We were with a group of others that were not experienced at all with Kayaking, so it took a bit longer than usual. We were grateful for the tarp idea, so we could see the bioluminescence. One of the guides took some individual time with our kids to show them the iguanas and wildlife. We were harassed a bit by the staff at Costa Mia. They charged us a dollar per person to use their restroom and were upset that we came there at all. We went there on your suggestion. You may consider removing that from your instructions. Other than that, we had a terrific experience considering it was a full moon

I thought the leader of the trip was great and very knowledgeable. The excursion itself leaves a little to be desired though. I didn't know exactly where we were meeting until I called (quick answer - a bonus!). I was told people would start gathering around 8:30 pm. There was no exact time of departure and I had no idea who to look for. They don't leave from where everyone else does because of permitting issues. Also, halfway through, you stop, they drag your kayaks across to the lagoon and then you continue. The moon was almost full so, we really didn't see anything. They brought a tarp so that we could see a little of the bioluminescence. The kayaking was more exciting than the glowing. I wish we would have kayaked further to make up for the lack of seeing anything cool. Night kayaking under the moon would have been great. Trying to see organisms underneath a smelly tarp - not so much. I probably wouldn't do this tour again. I would if it included kayaking the whole lagoon and not a 15 minute journey to and from.

Thank you very much for the feedback! Most importantly, we are happy that you all enjoyed the guides as they work very hard to give you a natural experience and as much knowledge as possible about the bay, eco system, and east end of the island as a whole! You are 100% correct in that we launch from about 5 minutes away from everyone else. While we're permitted access to the entire bay, we choose to launch from our location because it is a much shorter paddle to the entrance! Most people who attend this tour have no kayaking experience and many don't even know how to swim, so it keeps it a little more manageable for most. To your point, if you're looking for a little more intense or longer paddle, one of the other companies may be a better bet. They are all fantastic and everyone is really just trying to give our guests the most enjoyable experience possible. Because of this we recognize it can be slightly confusing and send everyone a welcome text, and then email with exact location, time, what to wear, parking, etc. and try to be very responsive so that we are able to get you where you need to be. So i'm glad we were able to connect so easily!! I'm sorry we had to use the cover so you were able to see the organism, but we're happy you got to experience it! safe travels and please continue to enjoy the island!!

Spending $ 50 to use a kayak for an hour and a half (out of three declared) is stealing. We did it to see the bioilluminescence, with the guide and that was $ 50. They took us to the lake to see a giant iguana and that's it. I say, if you know that there is no phenomenon, why do the tour anyway? I could also take a kayak ride somewhere else with a third of the price paid. NOT RECOMMENDED definitely book. Check if there is a phenomenon and then book!

Hey Lucas, while we appreciate your candid response, we are puzzled by some of the words. While all other groups charge $50 or more, we are actually the cheapest and under that price point. We also send emails and calendar invites to our guests telling them to expect about a 2 hour total tour time on the water (so that they can set up transportation, etc.) I am sorry that Laguna Grande did not live up to your expectations but as we always say, we try to offer a safe and natural environment for each guests to enjoy the lagoon for the natural beauty that it is. Yes, that includes iguanas and often times starfish that we will point out, as well as the mangrove trees that are an essential part of this habitat. We encourage each and every guest to research the moon cycles and try to choose the best day available for them. We are also more than happy to take phone calls and help to walk you through the best day during your trip. While we know many people are not able to adjust their entire vacation based off moon cycles, we will always allow for people to have a chance to see this wonder of the world, even when it requires brining a cover to help block out the moon!

Rainy day on the bio bay
AvidAnna
, Dec 2019
We took the tour with ian and Kyle on dec 21. They had said in the email that we could change into our swimsuits in the nearby restaurant, but we went there they seemed very confused and definitely wanted us to buy something. The guides tried to tell some jokes, which did not always go over well, but overall they looked after us and gave a good explanation of the science. It was cool to see but it seems like it was better in previous years. I did appreciate that we could squeeze the three of us on 1 kayak. It was annoying that our group had to go second so the cruise ship people could get back to their boat. I was just a tad chilly on the water so don't go in just a swimsuit.

Glad you guys enjoyed the bay. We appreciate the feedback! The goal is to let you experience this wonder of nature and explain how and why it happens. For future guests, no... there is not a place to change (and I'm sorry if there was confusion on that.) It's definitely best to come prepared to hit the water!!
