This packed full-day tour begins with morning pickup at your San Jose hotel and a stop for breakfast at a coffee plantation outside the city. Continue onto the enchanting cloud forest of Poás Volcano National Park, home to one of the world’s largest active volcanic craters. Learn about the park’s unique ecosystem, and peer down into the lagoon-filled caldera dotted with sputtering steam vents. After leaving the park, stop at La Paz waterfall to snap a few photos and soak up the tropical ambience of the cascade.

Continue onto the village of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, nestled along the bends of the serene Sarapiquí River. Climb aboard a river boat and settle in for a 1.5-hour voyage through lush jungle terrain. Keep an eye out for native wildlife that make their home along the riverbanks, including monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, and toucans.

At the end of the boat ride, arrive at the Madero Negro private reserve for a traditional Costa Rican lunch and an opportunity to observe native scaled and winged species with a visit to a butterfly garden and reptile sanctuary. Refresh for the return ride to San Jose with a cup of freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee. On the way back, pass through Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the country's most beautiful national parks, before concluding with drop-off back at your hotel in the evening.
