Pier 33 concludes the bus transportation portion of tour. Pier 33 Alcatraz landing is where the Alcatraz portion commences. Upon conclusion of Alcatraz, customers will need to make their own way back from whence they came.

Book a hotel pick-up or make your own way to the starting point for this excursion that is really two tours in one.

For the San Francisco portion of your tour, meet at the designated spot on Post Street. Drive along the city's waterfront, and take in views of the San Francisco Bay, stopping for photos at Twin Peaks, Palace of Fine Arts, and the Golden Gate Bridge (weather permitting).

Other attractions visited on this tour include some of the city's famous Victorian homes, Chinatown, the Palace of Fine Arts, Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, and North Beach. Your tour ends at Pier 33.

At Pier 33, board a scenic ferry to Alcatraz. Arrive at Alcatraz, a former federal prison that's now a national park and get a brief orientation to the maximum-security facility, which operated from 1934 to 1963. Pick up your self-guided audio tour, available in several languages, and start exploring. Listen to commentary from former staff and inmates and learn about the stints that famous inmates such as Machine Gun Kelly and Al Capone served. When you're finished looking around, hop on the next ferry (ferries depart regularly) and head back to Pier 33.

Likely to Sell-out! Alcatraz regularly sells out weeks in advance. Book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

The schedule for the day depends on the availability of Alcatraz. You are advised of the tour schedule 72-hours prior to the tour date.

Joseph the tour guide was great!! All aspects of the bus tour were excellent. The transfer to the Alcatraz portion of the tour was not straightforward and confusing. We were told to report to guest services at the Pier 33 dropoff. Guest services initially turned us away, but with persistence they were able to eventually find our reservation and issue us tickets. This all should have been smoother. Also, the flies on the ferry to Alcatraz (and back) were very annoying. Nothing you can do about that but it was part of the experience.

Hi Martha, We appreciate your kind words about the great experience that you had with our guide Joseph. We take note of your experience getting the tickets for Alcatraz. This is something that is out of our control but will contact the partner to see if there is any room for improvement in that procedure. Please come back soon to San Francisco and let Gray Line San Francisco handle all your sightseeing activities. Andrew Sales Manager Gray Line San Francisco
