Hear an eerie cry of welcome before you enter Te Pā Tū, and experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony) by a proud descendent of New Zealand’s ancient warriors. Pass crackling open fires and traditional whare (houses), and listen to classic instruments as you observe a re-enactment of daily activities and traditional arts and crafts.

In the wharenui (meeting house), see haka song and dance in a powerful performance by a Rangiatea cultural group. When it’s time for the hangi feast, dig into slow-cooked meat and vegetables roasted in underground earthen ovens.

Te Pa Tu
New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Attraction, Tamaki Māori Village presents TE PĀ TŪ Feast on song, drama, tradition, and divine seasonal kai (cuisine) within our forest Pā (village) –blanketed by towering Tawa trees, blazing bonfires, and forest-formed amphitheatre. Te Pā Tū shares Māori history, traditions, and cultural aspirations across 4-hours of celebration and feasting. These events change with each season of the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar. Summer: Tū Te Rā - Across this lunar phase, the sun expresses optimal energy, the days are longer, and light nourishes the natural world. Tū Te Rā celebrates abundant harvest and explores concepts, rituals, and stories of ancient Māori warfare and peace. Winter: Tū Te Ihi includes the time in the earth’s cycle when Matariki stars are high and bright in winter skies. Te Ihi references the energy and passion stirred by the Matariki cluster and the promise they herald.

An awesome experience
, Aug 2022
It was a wonderful time. The family that runs it made us feel as -they said- their extended family. It was an amazing time!!!
Hangi Dinner
, Mar 2020
Good overall show and dinner...was pretty late on the return ( 10PM ) but bus driver sang to us for fun!
Exploring the early days of Maori life.
, Mar 2020
Our tour started out with a video in an "offsight" building. It was ok, probably, not really necessary except to space out the diners. Our bus driver to and from the actual dinner sight was HILARIOUS. He can get a job as a stand-up comic. Once we got to the beautiful land where the dinner was going to be held, we were treated to experiencing daily life in the early days of the Maori. It was fun and enlightening. The dancing was also very good. The dinner was good, though, not exceptional. It was a bit unclear as to when to leave, as no direction was given until pretty much everyone left the dining hall.
Absolute must

Could not have been better. Have a mobility issue and was well cared for. The attendant, Aidan, was always ahead of me placing chair when needed. Very attentive. The bus driver, Mark, was hilarious and really livened up our experience. Can not recommend it highly enough!

An excellent experience with the music performances and the meal being the highlights. Extremely well organised - 3hrs of fabulous entertainment and we learnt loads about the culture, traditions and stories of these lovely people. Thanks for a great evening. Kia Ora
Maori hangi
, Mar 2020
A little disappointed that it wasn’t proper hangi. Should advertise as “hangi style”. Staff excellent

The tour and dinner were excellent and very entertaining. When I booked it did not ask where we were staying so did not get picked up at are motel, also although are driver Wallace tried hard to entertain us he kept repeating himself, I think he needs to retire.
Highly Commercialized Experience
, Feb 2020
Overall this experience went from bad to worse. Our night could not end soon enough. This experience is overly commercialized. Look elsewhere for an authentic experience. To begin, the chief of each group was chosen randomly from each bus. The guy chosen from our bus completely lacked engagement and willingness. He was always roaming off and was aloof. Women aren’t allowed to be chosen as the chief which I understand is cultural but the chief and his partner are treated as vip’s. They definitely get offered the best experience and like I said, the experience was wasted on our chosen chief but the whole group’s experience suffered because of his lack of participation. The worst part of the experience was one of the female hosts who was rude. Although I never directly interacted with her, she was always scolding the guests or standing in the middle of the show blocking photos. I was unable to get 1 good photo from the opening ceremony due to where she positioned herself. The rest of the time we were hurdled along like sheep from one place to another. The older people are given preferential treatment from opening ceremony, the village, performance and dinner. The food is buffet style and as is typical in that dinner format, people were pretty aggressive and disgusting (grabbing food with fingers, eating off plates in line, etc.) The dinner has a very camp vibe. The room lacks any decor, one of the male Māori performers changed from his cultural garb to sweats, a hoodie, and hat to “serenade” us on his guitar during dinner. During the main performance the one girl constantly mocked herself and the lack of quality in her performance (laughing at herself when she dropped a stick or messed up at poi, rolling her eyes, and making people take notice to her voice cracking while singing.) She completely broke the suspension of disbelief. Perhaps our experience was completely different than others, or our standard is too high, but I definitely did not get the 5 star experience others received.

Very talented young people. The songs were great and performed well. The Hangi feast was very tasty and feast is a great description. We felt full and well taken care of. Our guide, Wallace, was entertaining on the trip. I know it is a business but it felt like a living museum and I appreciate the efforts by all involved.
Cultural Delight

Best night out in new zealand
, Feb 2020
Excellent evening from start to finish. All performances were brilliant. Learnt a lot, we really admire the Maori people and there culture. The dinner itself was excellent well done. Must say our driver was a real character, and I will never think of the "wheels on the bus" in the same way again.
