Not what I paid for.
, Apr 2020
I did this tour in 2016 and it was fantastic, however when I went with my daughter in 2019 it was not well done. The tour guides were boring and did not give much information. The tour was supposed to allow you to go to the 5th level of the Colosseum, but they didn't. I paid a higher price to go on this tour to be able to go to the 5th level and feel it was a rip off for my money spent!
We are sorry for the disappointment.
The 5th level was closed in 2018 for safety reasons after they reported fallen rocks. They are now renovating it and the 3rd level is the highest you can get in the Colosseum. Since then we modified the description of the tour online not to include access to the 5th level. So it was also when you purchased this tour online, you knew about previous access to the 5th level not from our description of the tour.
Again we are sorry for the disappointment.
Best regards and stay safe
The day before we were at the Vatican which was already very good, but these two tours (yes, colosseum and Roman Forum are two separate tours provided by different tour guides) were the absolute highlight of our trip to Rome.
The Colosseum is just overwhelming in all aspects with the view from the top floor which only few can access being the
“icing on the cake “.
The following tour of the Roman Forum and especially Paladin Hills was absolutely perfect as:
1) outstanding tour guide- she really engaged so well our young kids
2) small group- we were only 6, leaving lot of space for interaction
3) extremely knowledgeable tour guide being able to give a very good idea about how life was
Overall, I highly recommend this tour, even if it does not come cheap.
A great tour with a very knowledgeable guide. well worth the time & money. I would do this again! easy to hook-up with them and follow not he tour. The amount and steepness of the steps would definitely challenge those persons with any mobility issues, but worth it if you can.
The first part of tour of the Colosseum was great. It was very interesting to see the structure from so many different perspectives, and try to understand the amazing feat of construction and architecture at that time. It is also highlighted the necessity to not forget the lives that went into building and operating such a structure, purely for entertainment purposes. The slaves, the downtrodden, or the prisoners of war.
The highlight of the tour though was Tom, our guide for the Forums and Palatine hill. Tom truly knows his information, but what we most appreciated was his take on history not just being necessary to tell the tales of our past, but rather to highlight the possible mistakes of our present and future. That if you don't learn from history, it will continually repeat itself. It was a very powerful tour.
We had two different guides, one for the colosseum and another for the Roman forum. Both were very knowledgeable, dynamic and kind. They gave specifics about Roman history, culture and art. I would recommend this tour to everyone who wants to dive in the history of the Roman Empire.
