Largo Gaetana Agnesi , Largo Gaetana Agnesi, 00184 Roma RM, Italy

Meet your guide at Largo Gaetana Agnesi, above the 2nd floor of the metro line B (blue line) stop "Colosseo". Your guide coordinator will be waiting here wearing a blue City Wonders polo shirt or jacket for easy recognition.

Palatine Hill , Palatine Hill, 00186 Rome, Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy
Your Ancient Rome tour starts near Oppian Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, for a view of the Colosseum. Then walk down to the arena with your guide, and skip the main entrance line with your fast-track ticket. Inside, explore the Colosseum’s first and second tiers while listening to stories from your guide about the brutal events that were once held here, like executions and gory gladiator battles. As you stroll around the perimeter of the amphitheater, try to image the ancient crowd of up to 50,000 spectators who cheered as gladiators’ fates were decided by power-hungry emperors.

Next, exit the Colosseum and walk over to the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the city. Get an up-close view of ancient remains like the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Julius Caesar, and then walk up Palatine Hill for another perspective of the ruins, including Circus Maximus, where chariot races once took place. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

Optional upgrade to the Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour: Underground Chambers, Arena and Upper Tier (3.5 hours)

For a more thorough exploration of the Colosseum, select the upgrade option when booking for a tour that includes access to the third tier, the arena floor and the underground chambers—sections of the Colosseum that are either newly opened or typically closed to the general public. You’ll see more than most visitors do.

Walk around the reconstructed floor of the arena, where the gladiators once dueled in bloody battles, and look down through the gaps into the underground chambers. Then make your way below ground to explore the chambers themselves, checking out pits where wild animals like tigers and lions were held, before heading up to the third tier for a panoramic view into the Colosseum and out to Palatine Hill. Your tour ends with a visit to the Roman Forum, as described in the standard tour.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Colosseum
Your journey into antiquity begins with the Colosseum, one of the world’s most iconic sights. Your guide will call on their historical and archaeological expertise to tell you all about the battles, both physical and political, that played out in this incredible amphitheater. You might be surprised to learn that ‘Gladiator’ didn’t get everything right and that feats of ancient engineering even allowed the Romans to re-enact naval battles here.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At:
Palatine Hill
The next stop takes you back to the very beginning. The Palatine Hill is the spot Romulus chose to found the city that would become Rome in 753 BC – a decision that ended in tragedy for his brother Remus. Here, steeped in history, you’ll enjoy spectacular views overlooking your next destination: the Roman Forum.

It was a great tour and we both enjoyed all the places visited, and was able to discover more about the history of Ancient Rome.

Our tour guide, Sonia, wasn't the nicest tour guide, to say the least. We had a woman in group (not with us, but in our tour) that had a knee issue and was constantly saying mean things to her. She kept calling her an old woman who was disabled, "we'll wait for the old woman..." she kept on saying these horrible things that she ended up making the woman cry. She wouldn't take off her microphone, so we heard everything she was saying, so it was very uncomfortable and made the tour very challenging. She spoke to the womans daughter, asking if her grandmother was ok, to quickly be told the woman was her mom, not her grandmother. No apologies.. nothing... Loved seeing the colosseum and the Froum, but this Sonia guide needs to go through training again!

Seeing the inside of the Colosseum and learning so many facts. Our tour guide was excellent! He was knowledgeable, funny, and obviously passionate about his job. He was a real teacher.

Amazing guide but not a small group at all

Fabio gets 10 of 5 stars! Our guide was exceptional in terms of engaging with the group and knowledge, entertaining and had so many stories to share. He made this a great experience. The reason I gave 4 stars is that our small group was 41 people, which was due to a shortage of guides (Covid). At first we were annoyed at the size of the group since we specifically booked for a group of 20 max. For the time we were booked there were at least 80+ people, we were in the last group and they just kept adding and adding. It is only due to Fabio’s amazing energy and humor that I don’t give the company 1 star. That said, I’m really happy with our time at the colloseum and forum.

I booked this tour last minute and it was the best decision. We went inside the Colosseum, walked through the Roman Forum and to Palatine Hill… bring good comfy shoes. Bárbara (tour guide) brought the history to life with her story telling and was ver nice and interactive. Would definitely book a tour with Viator again. Thank you!

Great guide. We had 3 interruptions at 3:00 pm. Start time. People were trying to get in line because they had reservations. The guide told them to call the office about being late. You have to register in and then the guide gets people. When we showed up at coliseum the guide has to show people at the gate how many tickets he has. One lady was rude to the guide saying you need to stop and take care of me. We were on the way to the coliseum. They are in a schedule and how rude of this lady that he has stop and register her and her family. He apologized and told her to call the office. You need to get there at least 15 minutes early so you can register in. Had a great time

Worst tour you can find

My husband and I got instructed the wrong meeting place and when someone told us where they actually were it was 2 mins after departure time and did not let us on the tour even though they didn’t start yet. We met another 15 people who got lost too and didn’t let them on the tour either. Called and the tour company was rude and will not give us a refund DUE TO THEIR FAULT. I suggest you find another tour.

The directions for the meeting point were pretty clear and easy to follow. We arrived a little early and they scanned our tickets and divided us into your groups. Donatella was our tour guide and she was really kind and knowledgeable. She even gave us other tips and info about Rome itself, including a recommendation for a restaurant in Trastevere.

A bit chaotic at the begining, and early part of tour due to very large group of 44 people. However, I understand Covid was the issue with this problem. Star of the show Serena our guide was brilliant, so professional & informative.
