If you want a fun interactive trip - this isnt the one for you

The tour itself took us to exactly what was listed and NOTHING more, however our guide had no idea what was expected. He had no idea what we had booked, what we wanted to see and no idea all entry fees etc had been pre-paid, and he wasn’t really interested either, he said he was just there to earn his money. He didn’t talk to us much explaining he had a sore throat from being up late the previous night partying with his friends / family so was feeling a bit lousy. This took a bit of a shine off the tour as we were hoping for some additional information, local knowledge about the island and inhabitants. But unless we asked specific questions nothing was offered. In the end we sat in mostly silence in his car as he obviously didn’t want to / couldn’t talk. We were out for about 3 – 4 hours – mostly due to the distance to get to Oak Ridge for the boat ride. We were not asked if we wanted to visit anywhere else, we were not offered to go for lunch / drinks anywhere so when we were dropped off back at the port we left a tip and he drove off. Whilst we did get the tour we booked (and the people we interacted with in each location were fantastic) I think there are better operators out there who will give you a much better experience, certainly according to other guests we spoke to afterwards.

Informative introduction to Roatan

After snaking our way out of the Pier construction we found our personal guide Shanda Forbes awaiting us and our adventure began. We hopped in her car and she proceeded to drive us out of the city congestion to the east end of the island all the while pointing out things to see and telling us about the island and its people, stopping for picture opps. along the way. At Daniel Johnson Monkey/Sloth park we interacted with some sneaky monkeys, had the opportunity to hold a Sloth, fed a parrot and got to see other monkeys and birds. Next we hopped in a boat and cruised along a canal where houses were built on pilings some that were only accessible by boat, brought back childhood memories of fishing camps in the marshes of south Louisiana. After a short cruise along the coast we came to a large area of mangroves where the Captain Alex headed us into an opening with a small channel where the mangroves grew up and over creating a tunnel. All the while the captain pointed out the scenery including several large termite colonies up in mangroves after which he brought us back to our car. Shanda then asked if we wanted to get a bite to eat or go back to town, we opted for lunch and we stopped at a small beach restaurant where the wife and I shared a delicious whole lightly battered and fried red snapper and some local beers. Back at the ship we said our goodbys to end a wonderful day in Roatan.
