Begin with pickup at your hotel in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, then travel to Tijuca Forest in a Jeep with a driver/guide. Climb high above the city to the Vista Chinesa, where an elegant pagoda commands a classic view of Rio de Janeiro from 1247 feet (380 mt.) above sea level. Take in city landmarks like Lugoa and Pão de Açucár, the Sugarloaf, and snap aerial photographs of Guanabara Bay.

Continue into the Tijuca Forest, a second-growth area that was once cleared for sugar and coffee plantations. Covering 7% of Rio de Janeiro’s area, Tijuca Forest is now called the ‘Lungs of Rio’ for the dense trees and vegetation that make up one of the world’s largest urban forests, and helps protect Rio's water supply. Drive to the base of Taunay Waterfall, which flows 114 feet (35 mt.) through deep green foliage, and is a favorite place for spotting coati and other wildlife.

Learn about the natural and cultural history of Tijuca Forest in the visitor center and park museum, then make the return trip into the city, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your Rio de Janeiro hotel.

Very Enjoyable Tour Through Tijuca Forest

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour which took us from our hotel to the many waterfalls and other beautiful sites inside this urban forest. We stopped several times along the way to take pictures and did a short walk along an easy trail. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and our driver was safe and professional. This tour is a definite recommend.
