This is our first beach and place where we pickup most of our clients
Very interesting and good experince. Nice, welcoming people and felt extremly safe. Would have liked to see some criminals with weapons but I can understand that it wasn´t possible :) However we saw a few "look outs".
We were picked up promptly from our hotel and driven to the favela, where the group was split into 2 smaller groups of about 10 to take the tour. Our guide was Carlos who was extremely knowledgeable and made everyone feel safe and comfortable in his community. There are a lot of narrow steps to negotiate but the group stayed together and waited for the stragglers and those taking photographs. We finished the tour in a local bar where everyone bought drinks and ice creams from the local shop. Although I originally had reservations about taking this tour I am so glad I did it and can thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Rio.
Thanks for your feedback. We all know that it can really be challenging to walk in Rocinha and that is one of the reasons why we recommend everyone to wear comfortable shoes and be aware of uneven steps and narrow alleys. Moreover, our guides are always local people who know the place really well. Carlos did his best and we are very happy about that!
Alberto is a local guy who has lived in Rocinha for his entire life. He is animated and has a deep love for his neighborhood. He took our group through the narrow streets and staircases and gave us a glimpse of how life in the favela was. I felt very safe the entire time. This was by far the best tour I took in Rio. I absolutely recommend this tour to everyone who visits! Requires lots of stairs and walking on uneven and tight surfaces.
I really appreciated the Rocinha Favela walking tour and my guide, Carlos. Carlos explained that he was actually a resident and seemed to know the locals. It was important to me to be able support the community upon which I was intruding. Carlos was very insightful and provided his viewpoints on life in Brazil. I never felt unsafe (except for the driving, which is scary all throughout Rio) and was able to take pictures frequently. I wish I would have had more of an opportunity to buy from the local vendors. I would recommend this tour.
Thanks a lot for your review! We really appreciate your time and we really take into consideration your opinion. Carlos is a local resident of Rocinha Favela who has been an excellent guide and we are very happy to partnership with him.
We all wish you a great day
Excellent tour guide Raphael it being 60 years old and visually impaired found the trip very difficult.
No fault of guide but if you are a bit on the older side, think again. Very steep walk, very informative but was knackered after.
Thanks for your feedback. We understand that it may be very difficult due to lots of uneven steps - but it is also described on our info. However, thanks for coming and we hope you are doing good yourself ;)
A very interesting tour learning about life in the favelas and their history by our guide Carlos, who was a very enthusiastic guide. We were taken by mini bus up to the favela and walked downhill through the narrow passageways and hundreds of different sized steps. It was pouring it down with rain and had to be careful on the steps. Our thighs were still aching the next day! Our only complaint was that the group size was 25 , we felt it should have been smaller 12- 15, so we could have heard all the explanations walking through the favela
We were collected promptly from the meeting point and although we were a large group (25 people) our guide coped well with the large number.
It took quite a long time to reach the Favela (the traffic in Rio is horrendous) and we were dropped off at the top of a steep road. It was pouring with rain and we were taken into a semi dry hall to have a detailed introductory talk about the history of the Favelas, Brazilian politics relating to these and the current situation. Our guide was very knowledgeable with excellent English.
He took us to various parts of the Favela including the poorest part which was shocking in terms of the state of the homes and accessibility. It was pretty treacherous negotiating tiny steep alleys with slippery steps. We brought crayons, pencils and colouring books for children and our guide took us to some of the poorest homes to distribute and he took the rest to give to the kindergarten the next day. We certainly learned a lot that day and would recommend this tour.
Thank you very much for your great feedback. We cannot thank you enough for being on our tour and for your kindness with the books and pencils :)
We look forward to seeing you again in the future!
All the best
