Experienced Favela and overview of the Favela.

The tour guide is friendly and familiar with the neighborhood. However, he finished the tour only in one hour and 15 minutes (10am - 11:15am). I argued with him that this should be a five hours tour... Then he showed a different part of the Favela for about an hour. In the end the tour finished around 12:15am. He claimed he has showed me the highlights. Anyway, be aware of the fact that it may not be Five hours tour as it advertised. Also I paid the one way transportation (motobike) by myself which supposed to be covered by the tour guide.

Great Tour/Tough to See

Carlos was excellent. He was born and raised in Rocinha and spoke great English. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the favela. It was tough to see that kind of extreme poverty but I’m glad I went through with it.

Excellent & insightful

It ended up being a one to one tour with Carlos as no-one else booked for the same date. It was definitely 1 of the highlights of my trip to Rio. I visited the school and got a breakdown of how Jody came to build it as well as visited other neighbourhood gems. Carlos was extremely knowledgeable about favelas in general and also about Rochina. During my tour, I felt safe and I really enjoyed the bike ride to the top which was 5 Reals. I also got the chance to buy things in the community which i wouldn't have, had the group been bigger. Thank you to Carlos and Jody for a great tour!

Carlos was great!

My girlfriend and I visited Rocinha with Carlos. It was a great pleasure doing this tour with him. We did everything, from taking a moto taxi to having lunch in Rocinha. Carlos never rushed through things even if we were just two people and he was always able to explain everything in detail, plus he answered any questions we had. His English is great and if you want to make sure you're being shown around by a local, Carlos is the ideal guide for you as he grew up in Rocinha.

Guided walk & interesting facts

Good guided walk. A lot of walking and stairs, so seniors or people with knee problems should be aware and possibly avoid. No need to shop around if you are looking for Favela tour. They are all organized by the same owners but under different product descriptions. For this one specifically, it's not led by the English school principal himself but a guide. There's no lunch included. The total time was around 3 hours.

This was an outstanding tour in that it was quite interesting to learn a lot about local life in a favela. We were totally safe and our guide was very considerate in making sure we were always safe. Starting at the top and walking down was great. Visiting his school was interesting. He knew so many residents in the favela because he lives there himself and watching him interact with his neighbors showed us how respected he is and how pleased the locals are to share the favela experience with tourists.

I enjoyed my day tour to the Rocinha...

I enjoyed my day tour to the Rocinha favela the largest favela in Brazil with Jody. He spoke English and introduced me to life in the favela and what it means to the people living there. The tour was not intrusive and was respectful of the lives of the people living in the Rocinha favela. Jody met me at a central train station and we took a bus to Rocinha. We started towards the top of Rocinha where the views were amazing and made our way down through the alleys. We spoke with locals, learned about local artists and had lunch at a local restaurant. We also visited the local school Jody created to teach adults living in the favela English. The tour took about 4 hours and the price covered lunch and a contribution to the school. I recommend this informative, safe, fun tour and look forward to returning.
