Itinerary
Pass By:
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon
After Hotels pick ups, we’ll make our way through Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon (except on Sundays). The lagoon is connected to the Atlantic Ocean, allowing sea water to enter by a canal along the edge of a park locally known as Jardim de Alah. There you’ll drive by Flamengo’s headquarters and hear a little bit about the 4 most famous soccer clubs in the Rio and the rivalries involving Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco da Gama!
Stop At:
Maracana
We will make our way to Maracanã where we will take a lap around the stadium (external visit) and have a short stop in front of it so you can appreciate the splendor of the two-time World Cup Finals host. There you will be able to imagine the amount of history that took place since its opening in 1950 when Brazil hosted its first World Cup. Once the biggest stadium in the world, the stadium was used extensively during the World Cups and recent Olympics and its often used for local games and concerts

The actual tour was just over an hour and was brilliant but nearly 5 hours in the bus which was late in arriving, would have been quicker and probably cheaper just getting a taxi to and from the hotel!

This was a very relaxing first day activity ... They pick you up in comfortable bus and drive you through the city to the base Corcovado Mountain. The guide buys the tickets for the charming cog train, which takes you up to the top of the mountain, with great views. We got about 45 minutes at the top to see the statue and views, which was plenty of time and it went quickly. Our guide was extremely nice. The mountain and statue are basically must-sees for any trip to Rio. Yes, you can figure it out getting there yourself at a cheaper price, but who wants to do that when they've just arrived and are severely jet lagged? Two things to be aware of ... The guide on my trip was basically handling logistics. We were given audio guides to learn about Rio, and they weren't that great. They were kind of simplistic and a bit dopey. The other issue is that the pick-up places are basically around Copacabana and Ipanema. I was staying in a different part of the city, so they wouldn't pick me up at my hotel. I had to take the metro to Copacabana, which was easy enough but not what I had in mind when I booked the trip. So keep that in mind if you're not staying on the beach.

A large group tour but with a fluent, knowledgeable multilingual guide. Unfortunately I didn't realize it's better to take the morning tour, esp if you want ideal pix of the statue behind. It's very crowded up top and the sun angle limits your photos.

This excursion is a self-guided experience that provides you ticketed access to both the Corcovado Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue. I went midday on a weekday and the statue was PACKED! Add the massive crowd to the rolling high-altitude fog, and youll understand why youll need to be patient when it comes to quality photo opportunities of the statue. Id recommend at least two hours for this excursion to ascend the mountain by cable car longer if youre opting to hike maneuver around the crowds to take in the sights and posted facts and snap awesome pictures! All in all, the excursion is worth the price as roundtrip transportation was included from my hotel. With the transportation included, youre treated to an impromptu tour of the city both going and coming from the attraction. Just remember to pack your patience, and some water.

For 75 you are basically provided transportation in the form of a bus to the cog train. You aren't picked up at your hotel but a nearby hotel. You're given 30-45 minutes to snap photos of the monument and then take the cog train back down. Depending on group size you'll have to wait a bit to board the bus again as lines for the cog train may be awhile. You are much better off doing this on your own as cog train tickets are only 17-21 USD and you're essentially paying the rest to ride a bus when you can easily take a uber or taxi for much less. We were a group of 6 and essentially paid 300 for a bus ride which excluding the cost of the cog train tickets.
