Returns to original departure point
Following pickup, head for the shoreline and hop aboard the express boat to Akurey, an island off the coast of Iceland's capital that boasts a healthy population of puffins. You have the choice of five departure times throughout the day to suit your Iceland itinerary.

During your trip, learn from your expert guide about the puffins as well local seabirds, such as northern fulmars, gulls, arctic terns and black guillemots. Warm up with a fresh cup of coffee while watching the sweet seabirds nesting and diving into the sea after their next meal.

Between May and August every year, the puffins nest on the island. The rocky outcroppings and slopes that form protected areas are perfect for hatching and raising young puffins. Riding on a custom-designed boat means that you can get as close as possible to the funny little birds. Use of binoculars on your tour is also included. When you reach the island, you'll circle it a few times before the captain turns off the engines, allowing you to enjoy the bird life in peace.

On board, learn from your expert guide about the puffins as well as other interesting seabirds that you may spot on the tour, such as northern fulmars, gulls, arctic terns and black guillemots. Enjoy watching the seabirds flying and diving into the water. When you arrive at the Akurey shore, circle around the island for more observation time before the captain turns the engines off, allowing you to enjoy the peace and quiet among Iceland’s natural treasures. a boat trip out of the harbour is always a nice way to spend some time to relax between the hiking and the long day-trips by bus or whatever You do during Your stay in Iceland - so whenever You need a break, a breather, You can just go to the old harbour and book this nice little tour the puffins are odd little creatures but charming and will provide You with beautiful pictures

Thank you for your review! We're glad that you enjoyed your Puffin Express Cruise with us. The puffins are only here for the summer months during their breeding season so we love being able to sail out to see them. Thank you for choosing Special Tours, and we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Iceland!

Thank you for a wonderfully fun and informitive time! It was the end of the season, but still got to see plenty of these cute clumsy birds. The tour guide was very knowledgable and the ride easy. Not too expensive either.

We saw hundreds or thousands of puffins. It was a great experience. It was short but exciting. Very fun to visit the islands where 26,000 puffins live in the summer. what an experience.

We were collected at the cruise port and dropped off at the harbor. Very efficient transfer to "Puffin Express" and a great day, narrated by AnnMarie. Binoculars were provided as well as lifejackets for the little ones. A fun day for all!

A really well run tour. A guide who is a biologist and studies puffins so can answer pretty well any question. A smallish boat so no great crowds on board. Gets out to the area where the puffins are and stops the engine so the birds come quite close. First clas wthout being touristy.

An hour with Puffins

After a nice boat ride, with our guide explaining what we would hopefully see, we arrived at the island with hundreds of puffins, turns, and seagulls. For the next 40 minutes we slowly circled the island watching puffins be puffins. It was a lot of fun! Then we had to return.

Great time! We went early at 8am, and Annemarie was a great guide, sharing with us all about puffins. We got some great pictures, and had the rest of the morning to explore Reykjavík after our boat excursion.
