Depart your central Reykjavik hotel or Reykjavik cruise port by air-conditioned coach and venture into Iceland’s starkly beautiful interior of rugged peaks, pastures and volcanic plains.

Take in panoramic views of the plant that harnesses the area’s natural propensity for generating power, and hear how it produces renewable energy for more than half of Reykjavik's population.

Continue from here along the famous Golden Circle, the sightseeing route that showcases three of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders.

Stop by at Thingvellir National Park, a region of untouched beauty steeped in ancient history. Learn how it’s home to the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly, the Althingi, that began in 930, and see the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other over a narrow valley.

Snap photos as your guide explains how the plates are gradually pulling apart, and then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. Marvel at the double-tiered falls and, with luck, catch sight of one of the famous rainbows that forms in the mists.

Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 meters) in the air.

Your tour then ends back at the original start point in Reykjavik.

Stop At:
Thingvellir National Park
Learn about some of the thrilling and somewhat gruesome history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park. It’s significance is so great that it is a designated UNESCO world heritage site. You’ll walk the grounds where Icelandic democracy began and visit sites where Viking-era justice was carried out including the Drowning Pool and the Gallows Rock. Thingvellir is also the place where two tectonic plates are gradually separating creating a gorgeous landscape of steep cliffs and broad fields featuring Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Geysir
The Great Geysir, the first of its name, resides in Haukadalur in the Geysir Geothermal Area. The entire area is bubbling with geothermal activity from steam vents to boiling mud pits and the real stars of the geothermal show, the geysers. All other geysers, the world over, are named for Geysir.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Strokkur
While the Great Geysir erupts only occasionally these days, the last time being in 2016, nearby geyser Strokkur erupts regularly delighting onlookers by shooting hot water high into the air every few minutes.
Duration: 1 hour
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Gullfoss Waterfall
The most popular waterfall in Iceland is, without a doubt, Gullfoss (the golden falls). And that is saying quite a lot in a country that is home to thousands of waterfalls. Gullfoss is also considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Iceland and it is certainly one of the largest. Hearing the roar of the Hvita River as it plunges 32 meters over two tiers into the gorge below is exhilarating. On sunny days, rainbows are abundant in the mist rising from the falls and there are several paths available around the waterfall including one leading down to its bottom so come equipped with your raincoat and have your camera at the ready.

We will told to wait outside the Icewear store between 9-9.30am. When we arrive there are so many people already wait in the cold , and theres no members of your company to guide us. What a mess.

Bus broke down before trip started. Delayed for an hour. I think the South Coast and Snaefellsnes trips are better.

This is a really great tour to see some of the main sites in such a beautiful country. We were picked up from the Port and taken round the Golden Circle. Our guide (Early?) was really interesting and had a great sense of humour. Would certainly recommend it and we also had time to walk around Reykjavik too. We booked this through Viator whose service has been excellent. Will certainly be booking tours with them again.

I was regretting staying an extra day but this tour proved it was worthwhile. Phenomenal sights, with excellent narration from Olifur. Don't miss it! Hotel pickup was prompt, and the coach was comfy and not crowded. Plenty of time at each stop to explore in full, and each one also had toilet and food facilities.

I never got picked up due...

I never got picked up due to a lack of precision regarding the meeting point. I got rescheduled on the afternoon tour. After 10 minutes of waiting I called your office that asked me to wait a total of 30 minutes before worrying. I called a second time, to find out that there was an other bus stop named exactly the same. I was about 300m away, the operator held me on the line and reassured me that the bus hadnt left. I waited an extra 30 minutes, so a random bus driver from your company confirmed me that the grouo had left a long time ago. After calling again, and emailing, no way to have my money back. Worst experience of all time!

Stood Up in Reykjavik
Scott_S
, Aug 2022
This might have been a nice tour if the company, Grey Line, had actually picked us up instead of leaving us freezing our butts off on a Reykjavik street corner. We lost an entire tour day because of their incompetence. The next day, as we waited for another tour, another couple said Grey Line had stood them up the day before. This company should be removed from Viator.

Great sights

Great tour around the geological features. Recommended. Only problem was the initial bus boarding. Four buses with no allocation. Everyone tried to get on the first bus and they were letting people on by first name not last name. The courier had to find four buses worth of names from a clipboard. Imagine if everyone was called Jon. Then another bus arrived and everyone dashed for that. What a palaver.
