Iceland’s south coast is one of the country’s scenic wonders, but often overshadowed by the Golden Circle sights. This full-day trip from Reykjavik covers it in detail, showcasing its lava landscapes, waterfalls, glaciers, and beaches. In addition to visiting the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, walk up close to the Sólheimajökull glacier, and admire the black cliffs and rocks at Reynisfjara and Dyrhólaey. A stop for lunch (own expense), and hotel pickup and drop-off included.
  • 10-hour trip to Iceland’s South Coast from Reykjavik
  • See the south’s beaches, ocean cliffs, waterfalls, and glaciers
  • Visit the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, and black sands and cliffs at Reynisfjara
  • Admire the cliffs and rock arch of Dyrhólaey, Iceland’s southernmost point
  • Get up-close to the ancient ice of the vast Sólheimajökull glacier
  • Stop for lunch (own expense) at Vik or Reynisfjara
  • Round-trip air-conditioned transport, with hotel pickup and drop-off in Reykjavik
After pickup from your Reykjavik hotel, hop aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and set out southward from the city. Along the way, gaze at Iceland’s barren scenery and listen as your guide shed lights on the geological forces that have sculpted the lava plains, pastures, and mountains.

After roughly 1.5 hours , stop for a coffee (own expense) at Hvolsvöllur, before continuing to your first destination: the magnificent waterfall of Skógafoss.

Take photos of this spectacular 196-foot (60-meter) cascade, and then travel onward to Reynisfjara beach, one of the south coast’s most stunning beauty spots. Stroll on the black sands and view the striking basalt sea cliffs that tower over them, as the waves crash onto the beach.

Stop for lunch (own expense) at either Reynisfjara or in the small seaside village of Vík. Then, drive to cape Dyrhólaey, Iceland’s most southerly point, famous for its towering sea cliffs and natural rock arch.

After admiring the scenery here, make your way to the Sólheimajökull glacier, and take a 15-minute walk to near the icecap. Capture pictures of the tongue of ice, an expanse of ancient frozen water composed of jagged ridges, sinkholes, and other formations, and if the conditions are right, get close enough to reach out and touch the ice.

Next, enjoy the scenery as you make the 30-minute drive to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Absorb the sight of this fairy tale-like fall, and if the weather is mild enough, take the opportunity to walk behind the curtain of water, cascading from what was a former ocean cliff.

Afterward, return to your vehicle and relax on your 2-hour ride to Reykjavik, where your tour ends with a drop-off either at or near your hotel.

Highly recommend this trip! Our guide was Annie and she was fabulous! She had a great sense of humour and kept the entire tour informative as well! All the stops on this tour are beautiful and my friend and I would definitely revisit all of the locations!
Good trio

Originally thought trip would be cancelled due to massive snow storm, thankfully it wasn’t. Long drive but worth it. The 2 beaches and 2 waterfalls were outstanding but due to amount of snow we couldn’t do the glacier walk as the road was closed. That was disappointing however we saw a different side of Iceland (we went in February). Driver was good but not as interactive / informative as others but grateful he focussed his energies on the treacherous road conditions. The trip is worth doing as some amazing scenery although they should tell you before you book that you can’t walk behind the waterfall due to the weather conditions.
Definitely recommend this trip.

Klaus was an excellent driver and guide. The bus was comfortable. The scenery was spectacular. There was sufficient time at each stop to enjoy the surroundings. Great value for money and would highly recommend this trip.

Thank you Sven and Boris for a wonderful and unforgettable day. Although I got too close to the water at the beach, it was my favorite stop on the tour. Sven and Boris were so kind and helped me and my daughter with dry socks. Their generosity was something that I will always remember about Iceland in addition to the beautiful waterfalls, breathtaking glaciers, and amazing black sand beach!
Great, even with small children

I travelled as a single mum with 3 children ( 11, 6 and 5) and was initially worried about the length of the tour from reading other reviews, but this tour was probably one of our favourite! The trek to the glacier was amaizing and evening my 5 year old managed. The black beach at Vik was very busy but still enjoyable, the waterfalls were great as well. The longest drive on the couch was about 2h on the way back but after a day walking it was a nice rest. Thank you
Seeing the sights and not worrying about driving or the weather.

This was great value for a very full day of activities, 2 fantastic waterfalls, the black sands of the south coast beaches and the chance to walk up and onto the glacier. Lots of time to explore and take photos at every stop. Small group in minibus. Really great value compared to the big bus tours.
Great trip to the South Coast!

Really enjoyed the trip! Nice scenery and views. The tour guide could have been better though. She did seem very enthusiastic and spoke mainly of things not really relevant to what we were seeing. Still definitely recommend seeing the South Coast!
Absolutely Amazing Tour!!

We LOVED this tour, even though the Golden Circle is a must see, I actually saw my favourite sights on this South Coast tour. The guide, Gummy Bear (nickname!), was really great and told us so many interesting facts & stories. The only negative was that we didn't have long enough at the Glacier, but I understand that the schedule is always tight, especially during the winter.
