Skaftafell is approximately 4 hours east of Reykjavik and 1.5 hours west of Höfn. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your reserved departure time; departures are available at 9:15am, 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm.

From the departure point, take a short ride through the mountains to the tongue of the Falljökull glacier. With your small group of just 10 people, trek up to the ice fall, passing small ice caves, moulins, and crevasses. Once at the ice fall, take a short break to enjoy the lunch or snack you have packed and learn some more about the environment. Total time on the ice is about three hours.

Expect heavy walking especially with the crampons. It was an awesome experience walking through the mountains and thick snow covered grounds. Make sure you have your shades. The ice cave was nothing spectacular this time but i would book another tour to see a better one!

Outstanding tour and our guide Dan was fantastic. Great judge of what people wanted to see and do and how fast to go in terms of the hike versus taking photos and really looking at something he thought we would be interested in seeing. While I wouldnt say this is an easy tour I would say it wasn't very strenuous and could be completed by all levels. Dan was also great about making sure people were safe while not being overly cautious and diminishing the experience.
