Quilitoa Lagoon and Indigenous Town

Extremely well put together tour with some of the most majestic views I’ve seen. Daniel was an incredible tour guide, very informative and friendly and helpful. It was so interesting to see how the indigenous people live and how little they need to smile.... highly recommend as you get to see so much and it’s not overly strenuous. The walk down to Quilotoa was worth every thing. Takes about 40 min to get down and you can take a horse or mule back up for just 10.00. Special experience!

Wonderful experience

This tour was a great way to get to know some of the local culture, history, and nature. The drive from Quito to Quilotoa is quite scenic, so we stopped several times to snap a picture. Quilotoa itself is a marvel. I had plenty of time to hike down into the crater, kayak in the lake, and rent a mule to take me back up (my lungs were definitely not yet adjusted!). I couldn't recommend this tour enough!

Great day at Quilotoa Lagoon

Great tour. Oscar was a wonderful guide. He picked us up at our hotel on time and drove us to the Lagoon. We stopped at an Quechua family home first, which we requested and loved. He was great to point out and stop at other points of interest along the way. We had a meal at the village at Quilotoa which was authentic and delicious. Our day was perfect thanks to Oscar. Wonderful experience. Definitely recommend the mule/horse on the way back up from the bottom of the lagoon. It's a treaterous walk down, and worse on the way back up. It was $10 for the horse to come up. $3 for kayaks at the bottom. I recommend doing both.

Nice Tour - Excellent guide

The Guide and the Driver were excellent. Well organized tour. Quilotoa lagoon was captivating. To go down to the lagoon you need trekking outfit and sometimes is steep, for sure in not so easy. Going back, uphill at this altitude gets very difficult. Luckily the mules are there to carry us uphill for 10 USD each. Local people were picturesque but a little bit exaggerated. I doubt if locals live like that any more. Volcanoes avenue, just the Panamerica highway with mountains around that some of them are volcanoes. Geologically interesting but not a sightseeing.

Beautiful countryside on the drive. Interesting to see the traditional farm. View of the lake was spectacular, the walk down was precipitous and should mot be taken if you have dodgy knees. Altitude is high so walking back might be difficult. Mule/horse available. Include lunch on the tour; it was excellent. A long day, but our driver and guide were excellent.

A full day that covers many bases; helped enormously by Diego’s great commentary and context. The lagoon was the highlight but so many other surprises along the way. Well worth it.
