Monkey land is a good 40-60 minute drive from the resorts. Transport was on an open air vehicle. Bumpy ride but not unbearable. Plantation tour was interesting but not riveting for kids. They showed us how cocoa, coffee, and coconut products were made. QEnded with a sales pitch to buy products. Monkeys were the hilight of the visit. 20-30 minute interacting with them. Visitors were given bowls of fruit and monkeys swarmed to get food. Monkeys were well behaved. We weren’t allowed to pet them and they pretty much ignored us except to get the fruit.
My biggest complaint is that our concierge tried multiple times to Confirm our pick up time for the morning of the excursion. Tour company was too busy or didn’t answer the phone. Finally at 6:30 pm the evening prior to thee excursion, Viator emailed us with a pick up time. We were concerned!
Basically it's a 2-3 hour sales pitch to try and flog coffee and chocolate and then you get to see monkeys which is the only reason anyone goes there. Bizarre experience where 2 seperate members of the tour got into a fight around the monkeys... Both members were allowed to continue which didn't seem fair especially as there are families present. To top it off, instead of dropping us straight back to our hotel we had to wait by side of road for 20 minutes for members of another tour to join us. This was not communicated to us at all. The only reason it gets one star is because of the monkeys
Prior to our visit I read all of the reviews talking about how soft and adorable the monkeys were, and it somehow surpassed all of our expectations. The monkeys were incredibly soft and photogenic, and Monkeyland was one of our many highlights of a great trip to Punta Cana.
The visit to Monkeyland was a lot of fun. The spider monkeys jumped on our heads. They were so cute especially the babies. The next part of the tour was to a coffee and cacao plantation. My companion and I were not prepared to climb a long staircase with no rails to get to the presentation. I was helped by other tourists. This is not a tour for disabled people.
I can not express enough how magical this excursion was. Both me and my partner felt this was the best excursion our entire holiday. I would recommend this to any animal lovers. The monkeys feet are so soft and the freely will jump on you at one point we had 10 monkeys on each of us.
