Made the best of a rainy day
Michael_B
, Apr 2020
Tour guide and staff were wonderful and very informative. We unfortunately had a rainy/cloudy day so our view of the volcano was a bit obscured, however, they did a good job of incorporating other aspects of their town. They also allowed us to vote to retime our route to avoid local protests going on which was much appreciated.
Expensive van ride to and from a cruise ship.

Don't use this general contracting company. It rained and instead of cancel and refund our money, we were given the option of pointlessly going out in the rain and seeing almost nothing. We were scheduled to see volcanoes but the heavy fog from the rain made this impossible, so instead we got to go into the driving rain (raining sideways) and look at a tiny waterfall in some park. We got to visit some indistinguishable towns with generic tourist traps and nothing notable to see. The towns may have had some culture and charm, but in an hour or an hour and a half you don't see any of that. Again it was cold and raining most of the time we were on foot walking around some town.
You are paying money to sit in a crowded van over 50% of the time the 'tour' is going on. This really isn't worth your time. Save a ton of money and take an uber with two or three people ($5-$10 instead of $90 or more).
In conclusion: the tour was completely ruined by rain, but in an effort to keep our money the tour company created a complete sham and just drove us around places with nothing to see.

Lovely Day with Great Views

The Osorno Volcano, Petrohue Falls and Puerto Varas shore excursion was very well done. There was plenty of time at all places, and we did not feel rushed. George was an excellent driver and Nellie, the tour guide provided information on the area.
We were fortunate, as it rained yesterday, and today is dry and sunny with patchy low clouds. First, we headed to Puerto Varas, a German town known as the city of roses. True to form rose bushes lined the downtown parking strips, and the waterfront was beautiful.
At Puerto Varas's waterfront, we viewed the morning fog lifting from Lake Llanquihue revealing a subtle outline of the Osorno and Calbuco Volcanos. We stopped at a tourist feature with grazing llamas and alpacas. They seemed friendly, allowing people to pet and feed them.
The next highlight was entering the Vicente Perez Rozalez National Park in the Andes Mountains and visiting Petrohue Falls. The falls tumbled through a rocky canyon with the snow capped Osorno Volcano as a back drop. The sun had come out and the cloud layer lifted to reveal the volcano in all its splendor. There were two gift shops on site, with lots of alpaca options.
We then exited the park, heading down the highway to a very beautiful look-out, and enjoyed beef empanadas with Chilean wine. We re-entered the Vicente Perez Rozalez National Park and headed to the Volcano Osorno’s ski resort. We hiked up a volcanic ash trail to one of the first summits and enjoyed breathtaking views of Llanquihue Lake, and the surrounding terrain. Back at the resort, we enjoyed hot chocolate infused with cognac.
Tips: The ski lift was open for a ride to the highest summit, but be prepared for a fee of $20 per person. We opted to hike to a lower summit area. The shop nearer to the Petrohue Falls has the largest collection of Alpaca items.

There is some room for improvement for this Puerto Montt excursion
David_W
, Mar 2020
It was set up as a trip for us to see Patagonia for the first time. It was set up as a private tour for a group of 8 adults. The van is a bit too tight for 10 people (including driver and guide). Unfortunately, we never got to see the volcano due to cloud cover. The road is a bit windy and bumpy. Instead of lunch, as described in the literature when we booked back in June 2019, it was replaced by an empanada and a glass of wine on the voucher received. We did like the water fall and Puerto Varas. Overall, we still enjoyed the trip.
Response from Host , Mar 2020
Hi David,
Thank you for your review! We love reading what our customers have to say so we may keep improving as we have for past 19 years!
Our smallest van is our 15-seater Ford Transit. There are 12 seats in the back and 3 in the front. Is there a reason why you felt you needed a bigger vehicle for your group of 8? Were 4 empty seats not enough? The road is around a 20 minute drive, it's not unbearably bumpy, at least I have never felt it was bumpy and that's why this is the first review ever where I read "it's bumpy". If your voucher which you get at the time booking, which you received in June 2019 said "free empanada and wine snack" why did you think there was a sit-down lunch? We do not have lunch on any of our shore excursions because you spend 60 minutes eating at a restaurant and then you don't have enough time for the actual tour. But since you were a private excursion we can always set that up no problem. We also sent you meeting instructions 30 days before which asked you "who would like to request a vegetarian empanada for lunchtime" you responded that no one, so you could have expressed your interest in going to a restaurant at that time.
We hope in the future you read inclusions of each tour carefully so you don't have other expectations.
Kind regards,
Victoria Stein

Beautiful day in Puerto Montt

We were picked up by the well identified GV tour company. Our guide, Nelly, was awesome and was knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the tour! The only thing we would advise is do not take the chairlift at Osorno if you are capable of walking! The town was interesting and it was nice to have some time to wander and explore. The falls were busy but glad we went!! Viator tours have always treated us well!
Splendid views and three micro climates

Our group very much enjoyed this trip. Javiera our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and provided us with a great experience. Note that this is a journey encompassing a number of micro climates. There are a number of stops along the way to the volcano great for photos. We had perfect weather but as we wound our way to higher elevation the temperature dropped by a number of degrees. Giving consideration to this when you pack will help ensure your complete enjoyment of this trip. We had a great time getting to the mid-point of the volcano ( in the winter this is a ski hill) there are two chair lifts to take you up the hill. We were time constrained and as such could not go up the second lift to the highest spot on the mountain. We did have magnificent views nevertheless. On the way back we stopped for an empanada and a glass of wine (very nice) and stopped further in Punta Varas (a German inspired town and tourist area) where we were given one hour to walk around and visit a couple of markets. Given the choice, I would have taken more time on the mountain and gone up the second chair lift instead. I would strongly recommend this trip.

A fantastic tour with our guide Nellie and driver George.
The meeting on arrival was easy to locate and very welcoming.
We appreciated the reassurance that we would be back in good time for our return to the boat.
The tour delivered everything as promised. We loved the picnic.
An excellent guide and driver, we highly recommend.

You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
