  • Look for bottlenose dolphins on a cruise in Port Stephens
  • Take a 4WD tour of the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
Get an early start with a morning pickup from hotels in central Sydney, and then head north in a comfortable climate-controlled coach, leaving the city via Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Stop at the Australian Reptile Park, located about an hour outside of Sydney. Walk through informative displays that showcase a variety of species, including Australian native animals, such as Tasmanian devils, platypus, wallabies, and wombats.

After exploring in the park, continue your scenic drive to Port Stephens, stopping in Nelson Bay where you have time on your own for lunch (own expense) before taking your afternoon dolphin cruise.

Enjoy an afternoon dolphin-watching cruise that takes you directly to the best spots for sighting wild bottlenose dolphins. Learn about these playful creatures from your onboard guide, and enjoy fantastic views of the Tomaree and Yacaaba headlands as well. Your cruise also provides complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits.

Back on land, a 4WD-vehicle picks you up for an adventure at the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes. Ride off-road around the expansive landscape of dunes, which are part of Australia's biggest sand dune system, with some measuring more than 100 feet (30m) tall. You can also try sandboarding down the dunes.

After your exciting expedition at the sand dunes, reboard your coach for your return drive to Sydney.

Great trip to port Stephens

Feeding kangaroos, taking pictures with koalas and seeing dolphins in the sea was already a great highlight. But later we went sandsurfing, which was also fun. It was a very nice trip and the tour guide was really friendly.

I had an excellent day trip with a very caring and funny tour guide Peter T. Everything is on track and I enjoyed all the activities. The only pity part is that I only saw 2 dolphins that day... but even without dolphins, the sea view is so fantastic and definitely worth seeing.

Great excursion! John S. is the best!

My husband and I went on this excursion yesterday and it was excellent! Not only did John S show us some tricks to navigating Sydney before leaving toward Port Stephens, he explained the history of each area in a way that keeps everyone's interest. The reptile park was fun, but my two highlights of the tour were dolphin watching and sand boarding. (Note that the reptile park does have many native species including koala, not just reptiles!) John S. gave us some food selection and dolphin watching tips which proved to be imperative in maximizing our experiences at Port Stephens. John S. also gave us great food suggestions for Sydney including a great Japanese pub that was one of highlights of our time in the city. We also had a great time sandboarding despite me being a bit afraid of heights. This is an excellent excursion and if you have the chance to do so (especially with John S.), definitely check this out!

Great guide, lot's of Dolphines and a Sea Turtle

I liked this trip. It as been a great guide, who took very good care of us and could teach us a lot of the surrounding. We have been very lucky and saw many dolphines and even a sea turtle. For My personal Feeling, I think the Timing was very tight. We could not even stop for toilettes, but needed to use the Toilette in the Bus and I like rather smaller Groups. We have been 38 People. If you dont mind that, I would give even 4 out of 5 stars.

Driver instructions were NOT CLEAR. Given just 45 mins lunch before taking the dolphin watching cruise. Though I would suggest not eating much as a few ladies puked in the cruise as the ride was really bumpy. The tour felt quite a rush. Didn’t have much time to take photos at Nelson Bay. The reptile park was a waste of time in my opinion. Sand dunes activity isn’t really recommended in winter as most of them would be wearing boots so it might be a hassle to remove it & take part in the activity.

Great day out. Reptile Park, dolphin watching, 4WD and sandboarding were all excellent. Long day with a lot of driving, but if you know that beforehand, you'll be fine. Highly recommended :)

I saw a two years old boy and an eighty years old gentlemen doing the sand boarding. Both enjoyed the experience very much. It is my first sand boarding experience and it is soooo much fun! We also saw many dolphins in the open water chasing our boat. Pedding the kangaroos and kawala bears was a great experience. If you have a day and looking for a day trip, I will recommend this. Our guide Jason is really friendly and knowledgeable and gave out great travel tips. He has made the day really interesting!

For the most part we enjoyed the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the encounter with the koalas and kangaroos. The other parts of the park were good too. The dolphin watching was a bust. We hardly saw any dolphins. However, the boat ride was enjoyable. The sandboarding was good but a bit rushed.

This tour was very fun and you...

This tour was very fun and you definitely get your money's worth. The park you go to is the Featherdale Wildlife Park. Included in this tour is a koala encounter, where you can pet and take photos with koalas in small groups. Here you can also feed and pet kangaroos, but watch out for the ostriches, they'll try to steal the food from you! The group is pretty large, so try to get to the koalas first, or you'll end up waiting in line for a long time, and then the kangaroos will be full and less interested when you feed them. The sandboarding was really fun as well. It is like sledding in the sand, and you have beautiful views of the coast and the dunes. Do expect to be with a large group for the day, and combine with other tours for the sand dunes. The crowds won't stop you from having a great experience though. Another tip: make sure to get a spot at the front of the boat for dolphin watching. This is where most of the dolphins will come up close to the boat, but it will get crowded once the dolphins appear, so go there as soon as you're on board to get the best view.
