Departure Time

8:00 AM
Start the day with 8am pickup at your hotel in Playa del Carmen, then travel into the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose Maya name means “Origin of the Sky.” You’ll arrive at the archeological site of Muyil at roughly 10:30am: ancient sacbe, or white roads, stretch to the foot of Muyil’s dramatic pyramid, and the forest surrounding the small site is home to a thriving population of birds, butterflies, and wildlife.

After touring Muyil with your guide, begin the 35-minute drive to Tulum. Once a major port for the city of Cobá, Tulum is small but fascinating, with temples that shelter colorful frescoes, stone walls at the edge of a sea cliff, and views that stretch across turquoise Caribbean water.

Refuel for an afternoon of pyramid-climbing with a leisurely buffet lunch of Mexican cuisine, then make the final stop of the day at Cobá. This is the perfect place to see a major Maya site that’s just partially excavated, with some structures half covered in thick jungle foliage. Nohoch Mul, Cobá’s central pyramid, is the tallest in the Yucatán, and you can climb to the top for views across the jungle canopy. This 10-hour tour concludes with return transfer to Playa del Carmen, and drop-off at your hotel.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Muyil
Muyil (also known as Chunyaxché) was one of the earliest and longest inhabited ancient Maya sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is located approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the coastal site of Tulum, in the Municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is situated on the Sian Ka'an lagoon, a name meaning "Where the Sky is Born". Muyil was located along a trade route on the Caribbean once accessible via a series of canals. Among the most commonly traded goods were Jade, obsidian, chocolate, honey, feathers, chewing gum, and salt. It is believed that throughout much of its history, Muyil had strong ties to the center of Coba

Stop At:
Zona Arqueológica de Tulum
Tulum is a Maya archaeological site on Mexico's Riviera Maya, adjacent to the town of the same name. The most spectacular aspect of Tulum is its location on a cliff overlooking the brilliant turquoise water of the Caribbean. The ruins themselves are not as impressive as those you will find at other Mayan archaeological sites, such as Chichen Itza and Uxmal, but it is still an interesting site, and well worth a visit.

Stop At:
Zona Arqueologica de Coba
Coba is a large and expansive ancient Mayan Ruins site located in Mexico‘s Yucatan Peninsula, near Tulum, Valladolid and Playa del Carmen, making it the perfect place to explore on a day trip from any of these places. The ruins are scattered throughout the jungle and consist mostly of partially-restored structures in addition to the tall and impressive Nohoch Mul pyramid, which can be climbed. At the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding jungle landscape and lush green tree-tops.
