Excellent mix of food and culture

Brilliant tour with our guide Poh. We were met promptly on time and it turned out to just be the two of us so we got a 'private tour', bonus! We started out in a coffee shop with some local coffees and morning snacks as well as the national dish nasi lamek, followed by a trip through the local market with some other dishes, then to a bakery, another restaurant for the local version of laksa and a desert; and then to an Indian restaurant for a beef rendang, biriyani and local pulled tea. Along the way Poh also talked about the history of the area, the Unesco status and what that has meant for Penang/Georgetown, pointed out loads of street art and gave some information about each one, and pointed out other general information about the local free buses. At the end of the tour my partner said he wanted some sweets for his son and Poh proceeded to take us down to the nearby coffee and chocolate museum and take us through which was not expected but definitely appreciated! Highly recommend this trip, definitely for first time visitors to Penang. We are foodies from near Melbourne, Australia and I'd say the only thing for us was that there wasn't a great deal on this tour that we hadn't eaten in some form before, but other than that, a wonderful experience!

This was a great tour. No nonsense with getting on and off of busses. Just an intimate walk through George Town’s beautiful streets with delicious food, good company, interesting history, and two tour guides who clearly LOVED their jobs. Such a pleasure.

The guide, Poh, was delightful. She also took time to help arrange our afternoon in Penang. This was cultural immersion.

What a fabulous tour! Our guide, Po Lian, was highly knowledgeable and explained everything in a friendly and interesting way. We got to try a huge number of different and delicious things, from noodle dishes to fish and meats, fruits, drinks and desserts. She was able to accommodate my food allergies and made sure that I could eat everything. I was in Penang for 2 weeks before taking this tour, and wasn't finding food this good - and never would have stumbled upon these places myself. I would highly recommend this tour -- but don't eat breakfast beforehand, and bring your appetite!

Best to do this tour with an appetite as there is plenty to taste. Tour guide, Kevin, was a friendly chap who explained the name and composition of various dishes tasted. We sat in amongst locals chatting noisily and I sampled various dishes that I otherwise would not have eaten if not on the tour. We walked though a big covered market area with folk selling fresh fruit, vegetables, noodles, fish and meat. Very noisy and busy. It was great! Bought a small bag of fresh ground coffee and a bag of Penang 'white coffee'. Something to do with how it is roasted I think. At the end of the tour I saw oysters being fried as a kind of omelette. Found my way back in the evening to sample. Delicious!!! Really enjoyed this tour, was fun.
