Departure Time

8:00 AM
Discover the opulence and legends of Versailles on this full-day private tour. After morning pickup from your central Paris hotel, travel in a luxury minivan to the suburb of Versailles and enjoy skip-the-line access to the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Palace of Versailles. Constructed by King Louis XIV in the 17th century, the extravagant estate was home to several generations of French royalty until the collapse of the monarchy during the French Revolution.

Walk through the glistening Hall of Mirrors and get a glimpse into palace life in the lavishly appointed state apartments, including the former bedroom of Marie Antoinette. During the 1-hour tour, your private guide will share tales of palace intrigue and elaborate court customs, as well as the history of the ill-fated Ancien Régime.

Step outside for a walk through the remarkable Gardens of Versailles. Designed and built over a period of 40 years, the sprawling grounds encompass nearly 2,000 acres (809 hectares) of impeccably manicured orchards, flowerbeds, hedge labyrinths, fountains and pathways designed with the geometric flourish of the French Baroque style. Enjoy a gourmet three-course lunch at a restaurant near the Grand Canal that runs through the center of the gardens. See Itinerary below for a sample menu.

In the afternoon, tour the lavish Grand Trianon palace. Originally built as a personal retreat for Louis XIV, the chateau has been home to a series of royal residents and was renovated by Napoleon during the First French Empire. Continue on to the Queen’s Hamlet — a full-scale replica of a Normandy village and farm commissioned by Marie Antoinette as a private countryside escape.

After your full day of touring, relax on the return drive to Paris, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the late afternoon.

This was a great tour and it delivered as promised. Our guide Isabel was so knowledgeable that other tourists were stopping to listen to her as she explained the different parts of the Palace. Having all the back stories helped us get a felling for what it was like to be King and Queen of France. It pays to have a small group tour like this, since there is so much to cover. Lunch was in a cute restaurant alongside the grand canal, and it was well appreciated after all the walking that we did. Our guide was always helpful, never boring, and really knew her stuff. Thanks again Isabel !

Zara was wonderful. The headset we wore inside of Versailles was so helpful. We could hear her from anywhere we wandered off to. Zara was full of knowledge and answered every question that we had. She even arranged a small birthday celebration at lunch for my daughter. We were fortunate that nobody joined our tour so it was just the three of us. Perfect for flexibility. Highly recommend this day excursion

Though we booked a private tour, the local partner sent us in a shared car which is completely unacceptable and not correct. I hope you will take note of this and action on same.

This tour was absolutely fantastic. Our family had unusual needs and time constraints, but Viator and our tour guide Jean met them happily and graciously. We would not otherwise have been able to see Versailles. Being able to skip the lines also made a huge difference in what we were able to accomplish that day. Jean was extremely personable and knowledgable. He went out of his way to accommodate our requests, and truly went above and beyond what we expected. This was a fantastic experience, and worth every penny.

We had done quite a bit of exploring of the city center before we went on this tour, but we still enjoyed the tour. However we felt that maybe the name of the tour was misleading as it isn't really a ghost tour. Our tour guide was excellent and we appreciated all the information he had to impart. Susan Cockcroft
