Your Monet and van Gogh day trip starts with hotel pickup in Paris by minivan for the drive with your guide to Claude Monet’s colorful home and gardens at Giverny. The ‘father of Impressionism’ lived here from 1883 to 1926 and painted several of his best-known works, including the Water Lilies series.

When you arrive, your guide lets you explore on your own. Tour the charmingly restored house, where you can see works of art that Monet collected, wander through the jungle of flowers in the garden, and walk across the Japanese bridge over the lily pond that you’ll recognize from his paintings. Then continue your Impressionist education at the Museum of Impressionism, home to many works from this beloved era of art, which began in France in the 19th century.

Next, enjoy lunch at Le Moulin de Fourges, a restaurant inside a 200-year-old mill, before continuing your day trip with the drive to Auvers-sur-Oise. Walk through the village with your guide, learning about Vincent van Gogh’s days here before he died in 1890. The guide, Chris, was friendly and provided a lot of interesting information. The trip out to Giverny makes it a lot of travel time and I would have liked a little more time at Auvers-sur-Oise. Wife and I had pleasant day and enjoyed meeting the couple who took the tour with us.

This was a great tour that met my expectations. The driver/guide was knowledgeable. The only downside was that I would have appreciated more "guiding" at Monet's house and garden, rather than just being turned loose.

Two in One

Being able to follow in the footsteps of two great artists, Monet and Van Gogh, was a day I’ll never forget. Our driver/guide was well-informed, and made the journey between Paris and the two sites very easy. Giverny in April is just incredible (I’ve been in summer before, and it was lovely, but it’s even more marvelous in spring). We had ample time to go on our own through the house, gardens, and small Impressionist museum (which I almost skipped, but it was very good despite its small size). In between, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant where all the tours stop. It was good, though not great, and I regret we spent quite so much time here. When we got to Auvers, we were rushed and missed out on some things I would like to have seen or photographed. I would have liked to have had a little more advance knowledge of what our itinerary would be there, so I would not have lost some photo opportunities. Still, visiting the small room where Vincent died was moving, as was the walk up through the fields and to the small cemetery. One other quibble, which made the day get off to a rocky start: I had been notified that I must checkin to the tour beforehand to verify my pickup location. This I was unable to do, despite repeated attempts by phone over two days. I was left unsure whether I would be met at my hotel or at their offices. It was extremely nerve wracking. There needs to be better communication about this aspect of the tour. It’s such a fantastic day apart from that, it’s a shame to mar it in any way with logistic problems.

Everything that was described in the tour information. Our female guide was outstanding in her knowledge of both painters. We felt that we had stepped back in time with visiting Monet's house and garden and Van Gogh's last days in Auver-sur-Oise. Loved the fields where Van Gogh painted. Everything that these painters painted in these areas were put into perspective. Such an enjoyable day. Our biggest gratitude to the guide. Lunch was fabulous - such a beautiful restaurant set in a magical place. Congratulations on providing this tour.

Our tour began outside our hotel at the appointed time. Our guide and van driver for the day, Manuel, was punctual, courteous, and amazingly informative. Even though we had been to Paris several times over the years, my only regret as we wound through the busy city traffic and out through the countryside en route to Giverny, was that I had not brought pen and paper to take notes, so interesting was Manuel's commentary. Monet's house and gardens, the village and the museum were well worth the visit. Then it was on to a country inn for lunch which was excellent. Then after a short walk around the inn after lunch, we drove to Auvers sur Oise, the village where van Gogh made his last paintings and also visited the house where he lived his last few very productive months. It was a day well spent and Manual was a superb guide in all respects and his efforts made the day most memorable.

Giverny and Auvers dur Oise have been on my Bucket List for a long time. This trip did not disappoint...it was excellent!! Celine, our guide, picked us up at the hotel exactly as planned on time. She was an wonderful host and her passion for the artists made the trip out to our first stop at Giverny go quickly as we talked about the lives of Van Gogh and Monet. The route to Giverny is through some beautiful French countryside which was a nice change from the noise and energy of Paris. After our visit to Giverny and lunch at the postcard-scenic Moulin de Fourges, we made the short drive to Auvers sur Oise. The village and the Auberge Rouvx with Van Gogh's room seemed like we stepped back into the 1890's. It was so nice to see that the area respects Van Gogh's life here but it has not become a tourist mecca of souvenirs shops and postcards. We loved this tour and could easily do it again on a future trip.
