Beautiful Ballestas and Paracas!

What a diverse excursion! We first boarded a boat ( this one has a canopy, good thinking!) for the Ballestas Islands. We passed the hieroglyph the candelabra en route and saw many species of birds, including Humboldt penguins, brown pelicans, and one-eyed cormorants. Out boat also got to close to sea lions. When we returned to Paracas port, we boarded a bus to see the wonders of the Paracas Nature Reserve. Many gorgeous vistas of the Pacific Ocean, and vast desert dunes awaited us. This was a very enjoyable excursion!

What a wonderful combination of natural wonders this trip provides. The boat trip to the islands was amazing. So many different birds it was almost overload!
The desert landscape in the Natural Reserve is very interesting and the guide enthusiastically passed on her knowledge. Highly recommended.

Great tour! We saw tons of birds, sea lions two types, and several penguins! The tour was a nice leisurely pace - plenty of time to enjoy all of the wildlife and take pictures. One the way out, enjoyed the Candelabra on the hillside. Following the boat tour to the Ballestas, drove through the Paracas Reserve and saw the fossils. Guide was knowledgeable and both tours were extremely enjoyable. Highly recommend.

The day didn't start off too well when we found out that due to high winds and waves, the Ballestas Islands portion of the tour was cancelled by all tour operators. We began our tour to the Paracas National Reserve an hour later, which was an extended version of what was originally offered. Our guide, Lars, from Holland, was a pleasure to be with and our small group of six made it feel like a private tour.
The Paracas Reserve is a must see - a contrast to anyone's image of Peru. It is like driving on the surface of the moon, nothing but sand and not even a plant, but with amazing ocean views and red sand beaches. We saw a lot more than anticipated, and we were able to stop for lunch directly at an oceanside restaurant where we enjoyed fresh caught fish - sea bass, sole, and peruvian cerviche. And the icing on the cake was that we were completely refunded the price of the tour due to the disappointment of
the Ballestas Islands cancellation. Five stars to the tour operator, Joel, and the complete professionalism of our guide, Lars, and the
pleasure of booking a Viator tour!

This was amazing! The Ballestas were overwhelming - I have never seen so many birds! The boat captain took us very close and we got great photos. The sea lions were so comical. They seemed perfectly comfortable draped over the rocks at impossible angles. But the penguins were the funniest. We watched one group trying to jump into the water in a difficult place. You could almost hear them debating about whether the incoming wave was big enough to avoid getting bashed on the rocks. Paracas was also fascinating. Our guide showed us fossils from 20 - 65 million years old in the desert, left over from the days when it was a sea bed. The views were fantastic! This was our last day of the cruise, so we finished on a high note! The guide was amazing - spoke English to us and French to a woman from Quebec. He was very knowlegeble and also a lot of fun!

This was a great tour, the guide is knowledgeable and provided lots of information. We were picked up on time, everything was well organised. My only complaint was the fairly long wait to board the boat out to the islands, took about 45 mins as we watched other groups that came later board in front of us. Not sure why this happened, our guide didn't say anything.
The visit to the islands was worth the wait though, lots of birds, penguins and sea lions. There is commentary by the boat guide and plenty of time for everyone to see the wildlife and scenery no matter where you sit in the boat. But don't sit at the side at the back of the boat if you don't want to get wet.
After lunch we headed to the national park, all I can say about this place is 'wow'. The scenery is incredible. Being in a small group we were able to drive to places a bigger bus would not have been able to go.
Overall a really great day, I highly recommend this tour.
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
