An excellent mix of history, architecture, and literary/movie connections to Oxford. Tour guide Trevor is a recently minted PhD in Theology from Oxford who knows his stuff but is never overly academic in his storytelling. Highly recommended as an alternative to the typical intro tour.

I enjoy learning about Christian history, and imagine my surprise to have an Oxford lecturer in religion leading the tour. Oxford is a key location in Reformation history—the place where three bishops, the Oxford Martyrs, were burned at the stake for their faith during the reign of Queen Mary I.
You will learn the history of Oxford itself, the Reformation, including John Wycliffe and William Tyndale, various Christian movements, and even the Inklings (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkiin, and more.)
Trevor gives behind-the-scenes insights you cannot get from a mere online walking tour app on your smartphone.
It was well worth the time and money. I would do it again.
Learn the history and drama of King Henry VIII, and Queens Mary and Elizabeth. See the Martyr's Memorial where three men were burned at the stake for their faith during the Reformation. (If you get there before the tour starts, just have a cup of coffee or tea at the shop directly across the street.)
From the Martyrs Memorial, we hit Broad St, we visited Balliol College and spoke briefly about Trinity College next door. We then visited the Museum of the History of Science, discussed Blackwells, the Weston Library, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Clarendon Building, Hertford College and the Bridge of Sighs, and the Bodleian Library. We then entered the Divinity School and covered Radcliffe Square, including the Radcliffe Camera, All Souls College, the famous ’Narnia door’ and the University Church of St. Mary.

This is a fantastic Christian history tour. Imagine my surprise to have an Oxford lecturer in religion leading the group. Oxford is a key location in Reformation history—the place where two bishops and an archbishop, the Oxford Martyrs, were burned at the stake for their faith during the reign of Queen Mary I.
You will learn the history of Oxford itself, the Reformation, various Christian movements, and even learn about the Inklings (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and more.) Hear the stories of John Wycliffe, William Tyndale and other key players in church history. Learn the history and drama of the 1500s: King Henry VIII, and Queens Mary and Elizabeth.
Trevor gives behind-the-scenes insights you cannot get from a mere online walking tour app on your smartphone. And he's a fascinating storyteller.

An amazing experience

My husband and I booked this tour to learn more about the city of Oxford's significant Christian past and wanted to understand how this has impacted on present day Oxford. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, courteous, witty and generous with his time.
We had a very engaging tour and our guide ensured that we gained a good understanding of his topic without being too academic.
He also made sure he pointed out a terrific little pub that we visited after the tour. For anyone visiting Oxford with an interest in heretics burning at the stake, lusty lords and devout maidens, learning about the influences on CJ Lewis and Tolkein, hearing about how they critiqued each others work in a lovely little pub, this is a tour not to be missed.
