Begin your tour with pickup at your hotel in Osaka. Meet your private guide and climb into your private vehicle, then set off for Osaka Castle, once the stronghold of the city.

Then it's on to the grounds of Shitennoji Temple, which dates back to the 6th century. Explore the Japanese garden (at an additional cost) and see the shrines, grand dates, and pagoda. 

Your next stop is the old entertainment quarter of Shinsekai for a quick walking tour of emblematic landmarks.

Then visit the large Shinto complex called Sumiyoshi Taisha, where you'll see the famous arching bridge and note differences in style from the Buddhist temple on your guided tour. 

Stop for lunch at a kaiten sushi, or 'revolving sushi', restaurant, before continuing to Sakai, a city that borders Osaka to the south. From the Sakai City Hall, get a panoramic view over the city, including its large 'kofun', or tombs. Explore one of the tombs, then explore nearby Daisen Park (tickets not included), home to a modern Japanese garden.

Please note: the Shitennoji gardens are closed on the 21st of each month and the Japanese gardens at Daisen Park are closed on Mondays. If Daisen Park's Japanese Garden is closed on the day of your tour, you can choose an alternative activity.

We walk the grounds right up to the castle, but do not enter the building itself (we find it rather disappointing inside, but the outside is great!). The stronghold of Osaka, this imposing structure and lovely surrounding grounds are must-see for any visitor to Osaka.

A very lightly touristed, beautiful Japanese garden just a bit south of Osaka proper, Daisen Park's garden will delight as you stroll around its pond and deeper along its lovely landscaped stream. Admission is 200 yen. While here, we also gaze out across one of the largest tomb sites in the world, that of Emperor Nintoku from around the 5th century.

We had Kevin as our guide who picked us up at our AirBnb. We spent a whole day exploring various shrines and gardens. Kevin is very knowledgable and interesting! It's one thing to visit shrines and temples alone but having a guide enhances the experience and you get so much more out of it! Highly recommended and request Kevin if you are able!

Since we travelled with seniors and kids, we opted to to a private tour of Osaka so we are not stressed. Kevin was knowledgeable and also was able to guide us on where to pass to avoid most tourists going to Osaka Castle. Most importantly, he was very patient with us even though our pace was slow. The restaurant where we had our lunch offered a variety of Japanese food and was delicious. I highly recommend this tour!

This was an excellent tour, with our guide Kevin, who was the owner of the company. He picked us up at the port, and specifically tailored our tour to take in the sites that were interesting to us without any feeling of rushing to get back to the ship. We felt like we had a better understanding of the differences between Shinto and Buddhist temples and shrines, and experienced the gardens without hoards of other tourists.
