We were looking forward to Fred's show, even though some reviews were mediocre. I figured you cannot please everyone and some are more critical than others. We got to The Old Cunucu House early for dinner, not wanting to eat during the show. We were seated in the private room where the show would occur later. Fred arrived early to prepare for his show and he took time to talk with us while we were seated. We ordered a cocktail after dinner to enjoy during the show. Fred has been doing this show for 5 years, he told us. Some of the songs were very good, but other songs should have been omitted from his repertoire. In those songs, he could not hold hi note and in a few songs, missed the notes completely and sang off key. The room hold 40 people for this show, but on this night, there were less than 20. So, to say that it was an intimate setting is an understatement - it was impossible not to look at Fred as he sang as he made eye contact with everyone in the room. It was uncomfortable trying to smile when he was singing off key, so we left at the first break. The outdoor dining room had a gentleman playing guitar and singing beautifully - for free. We would have enjoyed that more. The food was very good.

I wanted to book something special for my mother turning 71 years old. The show was not what we were expecting, the singer does not hold his notes very good. Very boring, we couldn't wait to get out of there. Singer made very awkward eye contact with people that made everyone very uncomfortable. Didn't seem to know what his next song was going to be. To top it off, the restaurant only had 2 servers and I've never seen such terrible service. I had to run after the server so he could bring us the bill, never picked up our dirty plates from our table the whole night. Didn't come back to see if we needed more drinks or even water.

Fred Frank had a very nice voice and sang well. We enjoyed the variety of artists he chose. To help you decide if you'd like to go, here's a summary of our experience:
We arrived about 25 minutes early, by cab. The restaurant has an outdoor and an indoor area, and one must enter the indoor area from the outdoor patio, but it's not labeled and does not look like that, as there are several swinging doors that look like they go to kitchens. So, when we arrived, we approached the bar outside the only place we saw staff and were ignored for several minutes though it was not crowded. I spoke up and was told to wait. A bit later, I was approached, and then shown inside. My husband and I were placed at a very small table right against the doorway of the inside restaurant room, and asked to move. We were moved to the other side of the room.
Fred was present and chatted with us briefly as he moved around the room greeting guests.
The room itself was not impressive--it shows its age and looks like it could use a good cleaning. It was also rather small--much smaller than any other restaurant I've ever been in!
Service was abysmal. Only after asking were we given any bread which perhaps they'd run out of, as we got one piece of bread and two pieces of a cut pancake. Like, actual, American-style pancake. Odd, but that's okay, it tasted fine! We had to ask REPEATEDLY for water, which was tough, because service was so very slow and inattentive.
Fred sang a handful of songs, stopping to introduce each song to us, and to tell us a little bit about the singer/composer and the year the song was made. He has a very nice voice, though he definitely sang in his own style, with his own pitch and tempo, and did not try to mimic the original singers. Words that may be drawn out by the original singer, once, he may have sang 2-3 times, quickly, for instance.
He took a longish break while some food was served before starting again.
The food was okay, but really not very good. My husband asked if he should get the beef or goat stew--the waiter suggested he get the beef because the goat is full of bones. My husband got the beef it was still full of bones.
We did not stay for dessert, but left early, stopping to use the restroom on the way out. The restrooms are not particularly clean, and unlike nicer parts of Aruba, had a strict all paper goes into the wastebasket policy that I've come to expect from, say, the Dominican Republic or being aboard small boats, but certainly am not familiar with in Aruba. Needless to say, they smelled ... not great.
Bottom line: The experience was very, very inexpensive. That made for a nice diversion for the evening, so we don't necessarily regret going. However, we would never do it again, and we'd never recommend this to anyone else.
