Successful Tour Well Worth The Cost
    , Sep 2019
I had a great time learning about the northern side of Cyprus. My tour guide Ozgur was right there by my side nearly the entire time filling me in on the history, current events, and some of the challenges that the mostly Turkish community have seen before and after the island was divided up in 1974. I was the sole traveler on the tour and Ozgur transported me in his own personal car which was very comfortable and which he operates in a safe fashion. I did have one issue which was a bit frightening for a foreigner who does not speak the language. The meeting point to start the tour was ambiguous. I took a taxi to the place where I was supposed to start the tour and could not find exactly where it was. The contract seemed to be instructing me to go to two different locations. My taxi driver was highly impatient and not in the mood for solving mysteries. I had to have the border police at the so-called "green line" help me finally to find my tour guide. Ozgur explained that there had been a hitch in the computer program or something, but I told him that that cannot be allowed to happen and he agreed to work to straighten the situation out for future excursions. As a tour guide, Ozgur gives a comprehensive view of his homeland which he obviously has a fondness for. As a person he is an impressive individual with a strong knowledge of the history of Cyprus, and he is also a qualified lawyer should you get into trouble while site seeing there. I'm sure he wasn't crazy about having to take me to different castles (three in one day) or things which he has seen hundreds of times, but he did so without a word of complaint. One night was spent in the city of Kyrenia which is sort of a travel destination for the Cypriots themselves, so the traffic is heavy. The second night was spent in a much quieter rural environment at a small out-of-the-way farm owned by Mustapha, an elderly gentleman who has put together an impressive all-inclusive compound of sorts, which displays much of his own handy work, leading me to believe he has carpentry and other like skills. I found myself wishing I could speak at least some Turkish so I could talk to him, as I'm sure it would have been a very enlightening conversation, but it was not to be. Ozgur has a unique knowledge of some of the better places to eat on the island and took me to a few of them. The food was excellent. As I told Ozgur before parting, he is a great tour guide, but an even better traveling companion.

Dear Brian, Thank you very much for taking time to leave us a detailed review! It was a great pleasure to show you almost every part of Northern Cyprus in these 3 days, explain you its history and tell you about my own experiences. Meanwhile, I'm sorry for the confusion at the meeting point. The two crossing points in Nicosia were confused because of the similarity of the names. The starting point of our tour was the ''Ledra Palace Crossing Point'', but the taxi driver left you at the ''Ledra Street Crossing Point''. Unfortunately, the use of the name ''Ledra'' at both border crossings caused confusion. I'll work to straighten the situation out for future excursions to avoid further confusion. It was a very remarkable experience for me to travel for 3 days with someone who was so curious about Cyprus and its history. In fact, I was really pleased that you read lots of books about the history of the island and asked me wise questions. This made the tour even more enjoyable. I also had the opportunity to challenge my knowledge. I really admired the performence of you visiting and climbing three castle in one day! It was a nice efficiency for us! In the meantime, I'm glad that you liked my restaurant choices, I tried to make you taste the Cypriot cuisine! Again, thank you so much for thinking of me as a traveling companion. It was a great pleasure indeed! Hope to see you again in Cyprus! With my best wishes, Özgür
