We had an AMAZING experience on Captain Ernie’s swamp tour. We saw alligators, birds and were highly entertained by Captain Ernie educational explanations of life in the marshes. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this highlight to our trip.

Captain Ernie was very knowledgeable and informative. We were even able to find a few Gators in the winter and learned a lot of new things about them. Very good tour

Off the beaten path

Transportation from my hotel was easy and convenient. The airboat ride was a lot of fun. Our captain was experienced, friendly and entertaining. The scenery is beautiful, but not anything super. It is a swamp after all. But it was a nice experience to have tried this once. If you're looking to do something different and off the beaten path. Give it a try. (if you go in winter dress warmly no matter what the forecast says!)

It was cold, but good way to spend a few hours in January!

I booked my tour through Viator, I paid $75 per person (including transportation) for a large airboat tour. When booking through a 3rd party site, make sure to call and confirm your reservation. We were picked up at our hotel around 12:45 (we were told to be waiting 12:30-1pm and look out for the bus). Note that the buses used by Louisiana Tour Company have a different name on their side: "Alert Transportation." It's a 40 minute ride from the French Quarter, and when you arrive there's time to use the bathroom and visit the gift shop. Then you'll wait at the terminal for your boat and be directed where to hop on. Our guide explained things to us at the beginning of the ride, so be sure to listen then because the rest of the ride was all about wearing headphones to protect your ears from the airboat's noise. I went in January on a 55 degree day for the 2pm tour, and we saw 2 small alligators together on a bank - this was it. The guide did pull a live baby alligator out of his backpack to show us and let us hold, which was cool! Still a bit bummed we didn't see other wildlife, so it's really best to go in warmer weather to see things. I also wish our guide had whipped the airboat around a little more but I heard it’s better on a smaller airboat regardless the tour was enjoyable. If you're going on a day colder than 60 degrees- bundle up!! It gets colder than you expect.

OK swamp trip but really rug up when cold and don't expect an abundance of alligators everywhere.

Not the tour operators fault it was a cold day with misty rain. RUG UP IF NOT A HOT/WARM DAY. Having to stop for a 10 minute chat about why alligators were swimming around everywhere was annoying. I was seriously freezing my ... off whilst this happened and it was overdone. I admit I did think we might see a few but even seeing only one baby maybe a foot long or so was OK. Very cool seeing lots of birds and the boat ride when we were going at higher speeds. On a warmer day in better weather it would have been a much more enjoyable experience but as I said the tour operator can not control the weather.

We appreciate that you understand that the weather is out of our control. In Louisiana, we do get extreme cold fronts that can happen within hours. However, for future reference, if you didn't want to take the tour, we would've gladly refunded your money. We do not expect our guests to take a tour when they're not comfortable with the weather, but we do proceed with our tours regardless because some people really look forward to it.

It is definitely a fun and exciting way to experience nature in LA! Be prepared for the wind and noise and to get a tiny bit wet... but so much fun! Our guide was great and had a lot of knowledge and we saw a bald eagle, birds, turtles and several gators!!

Excellent Tour guide

Even if it was cold as f*** we had a great time, I have to admit that it was really interesting and fun. Our guide was awesome and funny but I think that meteo should be taken as go or no go. It was freazing and the tour made us a little wet and it's really windy cause it's going fast. Honestly, that part was really not fun. They should either cancel the tour or at least give us like big blanket.
icon Response from Host , Nov 2019
The weather in Louisiana is very unpredictable and so you happen to book a tour on the day with a cold front. However, we do not force any of our guests to take our tours if they do not want to. We would have gladly issued you a refund if you didn't want to take the tour. Also, we do offer blankets for rent in our gift shop for a fee. In addition, we do offer our tours on a pontoon boat, which is slower and has a cover if you don't like going too fast or possibly getting wet.
