Visit the Houmas House Plantation, dubbed ‘The Sugar Palace’ due to its contribution to the sugar boom of the late 1800s, when more than 20 million pounds of sugar were produced here annually.

Join one of the regularly scheduled House tours, at which point you’ll meet your costumed guide at the mansion’s entrance. On the tour, immerse yourself in the story and splendor of the old South as your guide leads you through lavish and traditionally decorated rooms, speckled with artwork and antiques. Hear the architectural history of the home, a stronghold plantation estate, and see the room where Bette Davis stayed while filming the 1963 movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte.

Spend your time before and after the house tour exploring the magnificent 38‐acre (15‐hectare) estate. Leisurely wind along manicure paths and through the exquisite gardens, find a quaint sitting nook for a rest, or head to one of the estate’s restaurants or café for a locally inspired lunch – and maybe a mint julep.

We arrived early so we could eat lunch at The Carriage House. The food was delicious! We spent time walking through the gardens, which were very peaceful and beautiful. Our tour of the plantation house was conducted by a wonderful guide, who was very informative and funny! I would highly recommend this tour.

The great mini air conditioned bus that picked up was great, the Houmas House Tour was fantastic. We had a wonderful guide by the name of Susannah who made the Plantation come to life with her wonderful stories. We had lunch on property which was outstanding. We then toured the grounds and were quite beautiful. Even got to play with owners two dogs before we left. Bus was waiting for us to take us back to New Orleans. Great from beginning to end.
Wonderful atmosphere and packed with history!

The tour through the house was incredible! It was packed with history, one-of-a-kind pieces and some pieces you’d never expect. The gardens surrounding the house are also an adventure of beauty and wonder! Our guide was only 17 but she delivered her lines and guided us like a pro! It’s more than worth the price of admission

We loved the tour. Very personable. We took the tour where our transportation was included. We just felt like we needed another hour there. We felt rushed and not able to really enjoy our afternoon long enough. We would definitely take this tour again and recommend it!

This trip via Old South Tours was one of the favourite parts of our recent stay in New Orleans. Keith our driver was gentile. The trip was well organized as we received a day before call about a pick up change due to Mardi Gras. The house tour was excellent. The garden self tour beautiful and the buffet at their cafe was the best food that I had during our three day NOLA stay. Lauren was a great server and the atmosphere and service throughout the cafe first rate. Their mint juleps were excellent and a perfect way to end the day in this stunning antebellum planter's home. We are Bette Davis fans and loved the connection and stories surrounding her stay there.
