Join up with your local guide at the prearranged meeting location in downtown Nassau. Then, walk together to your first stop, Smuggler's Beer Garden on George Street. Here, get your first taste of real Caribbean rum and cast your mind back some 300 years, when unruly pirates roamed the streets.

Continue to three more local spots, where you’ll fill up on rum cocktails along with conch and lobster fritters, rum-infused white chocolate and other regional delicacies.

Along the way, uncover some of the city’s lesser-known sights and hear stories about the island’s rum-running, swashbuckling past. See, too, the historical buildings that played a role in the profiteering business as storage for liquor about to be transported overseas.

Make your final stop of the tour at John Watling’s Distillery. Walk around the Buena Vista Estate, where the distillery is situated, and learn about the production of rum as well as the 17th-century pirate for whom the distillery is named.

Fun tour

Mikey was a great guide...knowledgeable and quick witted. We enjoyed walking from place to place instead of the traditional driving tours. Lots to drink along the way. Though I would have enjoyed sampling the local JW rum. Would recommend regardless.

Such a great tour!

We had such a great time on this tour! It started off with a tasting of 5 different rums which put everybody in a good mood right off the bat. During the tasting, our guide was telling stories about the history of rum running and piracy in The Bahamas. This is also where we had the first of the food tastings so that we weren't drinking on empty stomachs. This was a good idea. After the tasting, we were each given a refreshing drink (made with rum, of course) to take on our walk to the next stop. I won't go into detail about each stop but I will say that they were all great with really good food and drinks. These are places that I didn't even know existed in Nassau and I'm so happy I was able to see them. The tour ended at the John Watling's Distillery where we had, and I'm not even exaggerating, the best Pina Colada you will ever taste. I had a sample of this a few years back and the full drink was every bit as good as I remember. If you're looking for something to do in Nassau that will take you off the beaten path and show you some seriously cool places you didn't know about all while sampling tasty drinks and food along with meeting some fun people along the way, this is the tour for you.

Best Part of Our Trip!!!

So I read in a lot of reviews that the Rum Tour was one of people's favorite parts of the trip. Turns out, they were right! Our tour guide MIKEY was the best! He was super funny, incredibly knowledgeable, and really on top of things. You learn a lot about piracy - which was nothing like the movies portray it - about the Bahamas and of course about rum. You get a surprising amount of food and drink for the price. It really is an incredible deal. I was a little bummed at first with the first set of rums we were trying because the majority were rums that are common in the US. BUT, Captain Morgan down there does not taste like it does up here! It has more vanilla and is way better. It was so good we bought a bottle to bring home! So don't be fooled by what you're getting - there are differences. The art studio was particularly awesome and we absolutely loved walking through the enormous, old hotel and seeing where the cigars are made and tasting chocolates. DO IT! And if possible, request MIKEY because he really was the best!!! He made the tour even better than it already was!!!

This was a fantastic tour and I would recommend it to those not travelling with children. There is a fair amount of walking and a good amount of rum tasting.

Great Tour!

We visited Nassau on a cruise that had been re-routed from what was supposed to be a Cuba cruise. This walking tour was fun, and we learned a lot about Bahamian history and culture. The tour was supposed to start at 11:30, but it was almost an hour late in starting -- NOT the tour guide's fault... we were supposed to get a tasting of conch fritters to go with our rum sampling at the bar where the tour started, and the restaurant was very slow in serving (probably because they had a larger lunch crowd than expected). Mikey, our AWESOME tour guide, went back to the kitchen and cooked the fritters himself, as well as serving them. After sampling five different rums (generous samples) at the pirate-themed bar, we took our Bahama Mamas and walked to the next stop. This was a fun, informative tour. There is a good bit of walking, mostly uphill -- I'd estimate about 1.5 miles in all. So wear comfortable shoes, and don't forget the sunscreen. Mikey was a great tour guide, as well as bartender, cook, and waiter! We enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it.

The Nassau Rum and Food Tour was wonderful. Our guide, Mikey, was very knowledgeable. He has a fantastic personality and kept things fun. His island history is vast. The rum cupcake was awesome. The whole tour and food was excellent. The infused rum ball at the candy shop was delicious. The fritters to start the trip were very tasty. This was worth the money.
